One moment. Two masks. Three chases into the night.

They're supposed to be enemies. It takes one night with a masked man to change that all.

They crave the next touch of the person they hate the most. Desperate for that next taste of the person they can't stand. Waiting for that anonymous text message to accelerate their heartbeats. The thrill of the chase with the forbidden fruit is enough to blur the lines and the world around them.

The first problem? They both have girlfriends.

The worst problem? They're stepbrothers.

This is a very dark MM romance for mature listeners.

Right, this book wrecked me in the best possible way and I'm not sure I want to be un-wreacked by this one. The story it's self is simple but then it gets complex and messy and no one walks away clean. Which is the point of a book like this because it's raw and full of emotions that killed me in the best possible way.

Firstly you have Cole who is a dick but hes a dick trying and failing to do his best and that's what hurts. His instant disdain for Blaise is evident but the way that wraps into obsession and eventually love works for the characters. When we first meet Cole he's emotionally dead to the world and he's only able to find himself, the real version, thanks to the events of the book and that's what works. His story arc literally brought me to tears because he's not some one dimensional character. I think I liked it because even when he tried to do his best he seemed to be blamed for everything which made him even more broken and vengeful.

Then you have Blaise and Blaise was unexpected in the best possible way. You think he's going to be the softer one or the one who's going to fold until he doesn't. The story goes along and soon everything clicks together. Everything was a mask that let him grow so obsessive over Cole that you start to wonder who's worse and I think that's why I loved Blaise as a character. He's very complex and the authors did a wonderful job at making this character unhinged as fuck. When he becomes vulnerable is where I think Blaise shines through though because he's never really seen as vulnerable through the entire book and that's what makes him dangerous.

Seriously I cried at this book during moments because it was so heartbreaking and I truly came to love the characters. For me this book is choreographed carnage. It's the kind of writing that slices with surgical intent. The authors didn’t just throw in chaos for fun. They laced every beat with consequence, and you feel it with every word.

This book earned its fifth star, not because it was perfect. But because it felt like it was tearing its characters open with a scalpel instead of a feather. I truly believe it was a good dark romance.

Going in critical with it for a moment because I think the book deserves not just blind devotion, there were story lines that felt a bit weak. Not that it hurt the main foucs pf the story or the vibe of the book in general but definitely felt less strong. I think my main take away from the book is that it isn't a story you should go into expecting clean arcs or predictable resolutions. It's messy on purpose.

Unhinged but Unhinged for each other

What else can I say other then this was so beautiful dark and twisted I was hooked.

This squeezed my heart like crazy, the absolute dark and sinfulness of these two is insane, also can I talk about how I was sure blaze would be the bottom and Cole would be the sick twisted one when it came to sex but I was throughly and gratefully wrong.

Ahh! I loved the depraved darkness of this book!

Such a good read!

I love Cole and blaze!

REVIEW

Chokehold by Leigh Rivers & Harleigh Beck

🌟🌟🌟🌟

I listened to this via Audible and absolutely loved it.
Its one of those books whixh make you blush and fight to make sure people don't notice your facial changes if listening to in public. 🫣😅.

It Follows stepbrothers Cole & Blaze, who have such a hateful relationship but of course is it really hate?

The Voice actors in this book made the book so much better. To be able to hear emotion and breath etc. Made it seem to real and entertaining.

Would definitely recommend.

OMG.. I don’t even know where to start! This was my first MM romance and I absolutely DEVOURED it. It’s gone straight into my top 10 dark romance of all time.
I adore both MCs.
I wanted to wrap Cole up tightly and smother him with affection and love - he’s such a beautiful soul. His backstory had me sobbing and I really enjoyed watching his story progress.
Blaise is cute, but more so just hilarious- he’s so unapologetically unhinged - I was laughing out loud through most of his POV.
Narrators were fab!
I will reread/listen to this often! 10 stars!
