The stand-alone sequel to the award-winning The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet

Lovelace was once merely a ship's artificial intelligence. When she wakes up in an new body, following a total system shut-down and reboot, she has to start over in a synthetic body, in a world where her kind are illegal. She's never felt so alone.

But she's not alone, not really. Pepper, one of the engineers who risked life and limb to reinstall Lovelace, is determined to help her adjust to her new world. Because Pepper knows a thing or two about starting over.

Together, Pepper and Lovey will discover that, huge as the galaxy may be, it's anything but empty.

PRAISE FOR THE WAYFARERS
Never less than deeply involving
Chambers is simply an exceptional talent
So much fun to read
Joyously written and a joy to read.
The most fun that I've had with a novel in a long, long time
Explores the quieter side of sci-fi while still wowing us with daring leaps of imagination
Exceptional... Chambers is a true talent and writer to watch
Warm, engaging, properly science-fictional, A Closed and Common Orbit is a very likable novel indeed
Becky Chambers writes aliens like no one else ... the only flaw in this series is you'll wish you could spend more time with all of them
One of the most enjoyable, brilliantly realised spacey SF novels I've read in ages.

Any additional comments?

At first I was disappointed that the full cast of book 1 were not in this one but as the story developed it became a delicate and feeling look at the progression from childhood to adult on more than the obvious level. A pleasant and satisfying read and I hope that there will be a 3rd.

A pleasant suprise

Patricia Rodriguez is an excellent performer. I'll keep an eye out for her in future. The funny thing is is I don't like the reading Beck yet Chambers but her audiobooks are really good.

This one felt like a a Jack McDevitt story. Character based with a background mystery.

Like other Wayfarers books, Orbit is has some common characters. In this case Lovelace the AI from Small Angry Planet. Her world intersects that of tinkerer and fixer Pepper.

The writing was tight and kept me engrossed.

Good tale and interesting characters

Oh man, what a sequel! If you enjoyed the first one in any way at all you need to listen to this one. Ligit had to stop working a few times and just listen. So many different feelings (good ones) all wrapped up and delivered without being cras or obvious. Absolutely loved it

Spectacular story telling!!!

I was a bit taken a black when i found out this was not direct follow on from the first book. However, as an avid fan AI stories it was a delightful surprise to find that this was the central core (no pun intended) of the two stories within this book.
Using the first book to lay the foundations of a complex cosmos teeming with life, Chambers has the time to go into the complexities faced by an AI in an organic dominant world, where their discoveries add extra flavour to the universe.
Excellent performance by Patricia Rodriguez once again she breathes life into every character.

AI story telling at its best
