this was my 1st book on audible and I had mixed feelings as to how was I supposed to feel the book in the way when it would be in my hand and how I have a habit of actually imagining scenes from the book how will those come to exist, but I am so glad I did this, the story is fantastic, I was not off track or bored even for a while above all the narrator, she's the star of the show, how well the variations and he understanding of the text was, all that was very evident, so well appreciated.

I’ve had this book on my to read list for a long time but I was thrilled to see it as an audio book recently. The performance truly brings it to life. It is written in a way that makes it work better in audio.

Susan Bennett does an excellent job of narrating.

The book itself very much lives up to its sub-title “Some advice on writing and life” There is much good general advice in here for living an “authentic life”

This is a book about writing from the heart and I would put it on a parr with Writing Down The Bones by Natalie Goldberg. (Which I also highly recommend in audiobook narrated by the author in that instance).

The advice in this book is not about the minutiae of plot structure, scene setting and how to describe a character - though those subjects are discussed with much good advice - rather it is about how to write in a way to find truth and for writing to be its own reward.

It is incredibly funny and often very touching.

Near the end of the book Anne gave an answer to the question for the reason on why you should write. There’s a ton more context to the lead up for the question but essentially it’s to “Feed your Soul”.

If you’re like me, swimming in the treacle like ocean of procrastination, and you are a writer that doesn’t write, then read this book and at the very least I promise you Anne provides the special towel to clean off the sticky ocean and shows you the way to a new wave so you can ride it.

If there was a “I’ve read that book years ago” party, then I’m happy to be late for it as I’m sure this timeless book has helped many writers get out of their own way so they can be on their way.

From reader to writer: Anne, I’m not as voracious as that lady in your book that read every book imaginable and knows every author, but I have one up on her because I know your name and you write transformative books. Thank you.

I’d like to preface that I’m not a writer or an aspiring writer. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and like most things in life, if you want to become good at something, you need to commit time to get better at it. She doesn’t try to come up with special rituals or charlatan like routines. Just the truth that writing is hard and very few people are able to write books that other people want to read, however if you enjoy writing just like you enjoy watching TV or playing basketball you shouldn’t be discouraged from doing so and you can get better at it.
