In 2018, model Rosie Viva was arrested after she caused Stansted Airport to evacuate all its waiting passengers following a psychotic episode. After the incident, she was hospitalised, sectioned and diagnosed with bipolar disorder - a dramatic moment that would alter the course of her life.

In this moving memoir, Rosie opens up about the unique experience of being 'normal' and 'fine', whilst dealing with the delusions, mania and depression that bipolar brings. Navigating love, work and life while in recovery, she shares how she learned to embrace a ‘new normal’ and left the world of modelling behind to become a mental health advocate.

Completely Normal and Totally Fine shines light on living with a complex mental health condition that's often misunderstood and underdiagnosed, inspiring us to shed the stigma around mental health and open up about our messy minds too.©2025 Rosie Viva (P)2025 Bloomsbury Publishing PLC

Critic reviews

Rosie has transformed her bipolar journey into a superpower, inspiring and creating a safe space for others - she's an inspiration. (Dua Lipa)
Rosie Viva's Completely Normal and Totally Fine reveals an unflinching insight into the challenges of living with bipolar, a complex and often misunderstood mental illness. It will leave readers with a deeper understanding of what it's like to live with bipolar. (Bipolar UK)
A powerful story - Rosie takes us through the highs, lows, and everything in between of living with bipolar. Insightful, sad at times, but ultimately uplifting! (Adrienne Adhami)
Completely Normal and Totally Fine is a gift to anyone touched by bipolar disorder. Viva’s writing bursts with authenticity and warmth, reminding readers that while mental illness can feel heavy to carry, sharing our stories helps lighten the load. Her story is both a comfort and a triumph. (Leanne Toshiko Simpson, author of Never Been Better)
A fittingly open and honest account of what happens when you lose your mind
A raw, honest, surprisingly upbeat but often uncomfortable account of a young woman’s unravelling
Rosie Viva shares her story with generosity and fearlessness. A powerful book full of humour and hope, Completely Normal and Totally Fine is deeply relatable and heartbreakingly real (Hannah Murray, author of The Make-Believe)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! This is my first review, for my favourite book so far. I flew through it and didn't want it to finish. I always prefer a book to be narrated by the author and Rosie did a stellar job of her book. Bipolar 1 was explained so personally by Rosie and succinctly. It was both relentlessly painful and humourous too. It led me to watch her documentary, and pursue the books that she recommended, of which she read whilst exploring her bipolar. It was fortunate that Rosie had such a supportive family and friends throughout her diagnosis and bipolar episodes. Along with excellent mental health care. Although Rosie has to manage her extreme fluctuating rollercoaster episodes, she has managed to gain a good understanding of her condition. All in all a fascinating account, and very educational. Thank you Rosie!

The best personal account of bipolar 1!

Seems very self indulgent and the author very entitled- stopped listening after she started being patronising about the staff who tried to help her and criticised said nurses ability to do her job.
