Summary

From the celebrated imagination of Dean Koontz comes a powerful reworking of one of the classic stories of all time. If you think you know the legend, you know only half the truth. Here is the mystery, the myth, the terror, and the magic of...

Every city has its secrets. But none as terrible as this. He is Deucalion, a tattooed man of mysterious origin, a sleight-of-reality artist who has traveled the centuries with a secret worse than death. He arrives in New Orleans as a serial killer stalks the streets, a killer who carefully selects his victims for the humanity that is missing in himself. Deucalion's path will lead him to cool, tough police detective Carson O'Connor and her devoted partner, Michael Maddison, who are tracking the slayer but will soon discover signs of something far more terrifying: an entire race of killers who are much more - and less - than human and, deadliest of all, their deranged, near-immortal maker: Victor Helios - once known as Frankenstein.

I really enjoyed this book in Audio form.

Set in modern times, it brings forward the main characters of the Monster and his creator, as well as a whole host of new characters which keeps the whole read/listen very fresh.

The narrator is a great pick for this novel, and if Dean Koontz continues the series (it certainly seems that way from this first outing of Frankenstein), then I hope he is asked to read any subsequent novels in the series (for continuities sake).

This is not a modern remake of the old tale, it is a completely new story, with the main protagonists from Shelley's original work, making up only two of at least six main characters in this genuinely good modern thriller.

If you like Koontz, the Frankenstein lore, or any good thriller, you should enjoy this book.

A very clever take on the Mary Shelley universe.

Loved this book, addictive from the start. Beautifully wrote with a huge vocabulary of verbs. A sence of empathy for all characters.

Addictive listening

Love all his stories but this collection is my favourite and have read and listened to them many times.

Excellent collection

Dark and menacing tale of a man’s endeavours to replace the human race with his own creations and their struggles to discover their difference from humans. The cold calculating Victor is a great villain.
This story is lightened by the banter between the two cops, Carson and Michael, and I actually laughed out loud. It seems a lot funnier than the book because of the great narration.

Koontz at his best
