‘GODKILLER will have you in its grasp from the first pages’
Samantha Shannon, bestselling author of PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE

You are not welcome here, godkiller

Kissen’s family were killed by zealots of a fire god. Now, she makes a living killing gods, and enjoys it. That is until she finds a god she cannot kill: Skedi, a god of white lies, has somehow bound himself to a young noble, and they are both on the run from unknown assassins.

Joined by a disillusioned knight on a secret quest, they must travel to the ruined city of Blenraden, where the last of the wild gods reside, to each beg a favour.

Pursued by demons, and in the midst of burgeoning civil war, they will all face a reckoning – something is rotting at the heart of their world, and only they can be the ones to stop it.

I grew to adore these characters and the warmth with which their stories were told. The world felt unique and the descriptions were vivid and beautiful yet felt grounded. I felt so protective of them all at the end, and the very end itself was satisfyingly delivered. The narration was perfectly paced and spoken engagingly. One of the best books I’ve read (listened to?) this year.

Great story, brilliantly told

I loved this audio book. I read a lot of fantasy, but this wasn't like my other books. I loved the God element, and it created a new element to Fantasy that you dont see very often. The characters were flawed, but with real back stories. And the book represented a variety of different people without feeling forced or preachy.

I would have liked a bit more detail about the world I think. And I never really fully understood why the war started. I felt it needed a bit more info here. But I know there's a sequel, so maybe that will expand on the world-building.

Finally, I have to praise the narrator. I thought she was excellent. I love that she had a (UK) northern accent; I felt it added a bit of grittiness that felt in character with the story. One of the other reviews described it as over dramatic, but I didn't find this at all. I lost myself in the narration, and the voices she used were great.

Highly recommend! Will be getting the next one.

Unusual; exciting; excellent narration

From the start of this book, I was bit unsure of what was going on. Some of the names and locations were slightly confusing. But it improved in the second half and I liked the character Elogast; his loyalty, bravery and his overall humanity.

A good fantasy novel

Characters are interesting but narration style is jarring, not sure why she reads it this way.

Strange narration

I didn’t buy this 4 times. I listened to the preview and was put off by the narrator’s ‘gasp’ at the end of a sentence. I usually increase narration speed a bit so in the end I bought it increased the speed and loved the story.
Would recommend it. It’s been the first book in a while where I looked for excuses to listen.
Loved the world building - not too much detail, and the way the characters developed.
Don’t let the narrator put you off, give it a go

Loved this
