An unusual girl. An enigmatic man. An ancient castle. What could go wrong?

An outcast her entire life, Corvina Clemm is left adrift after losing her mother. When she receives the admission letter from the mysterious University of Verenmore, she accepts it as a sign from the universe. The last thing she expects though is an olden, secluded castle on top of a mountain riddled with secrets, deceit, and death.

An enigma his entire life, Vad Deverell likes being a closed book while knowing exactly everything that happens in the university. A part-time professor working on his thesis, Vad has been around long enough to know the dangers the castle possesses. The moment he crosses paths with Corvina, he knows she is a danger to everything that he is.

They shouldn't have caught each other's eye. They cannot be. But a chill-inducing century-old mystery forces them to collide. People have disappeared every five years for over a hundred years. Corvina is getting clues to unravel it all, and Vad needs to keep an eye on her.

So begins a tale of the mystique, the morbid, the macabre, and a deep love that blossoms in the unlikeliest of places.

AUDIOBOOK RE READ

I won't lie, this has now dropped a star. I still enjoyed this one, I love rhe mysterious and the romance of it all.

But there are some things I missed. There are some things that are left unsolved and left ambiguous. While I enjoy this element of stories, I want more!

🥵🔥SPICE!!!🔥🥵

I love a good murder mystery ! and the supernatural element really grabbed me!

I knew to be suspicious of one character! but they were really disturbed!

did this leave on a SLIGHT cliffhanger..yes..but its worth it ! (kind of Addie Larue), its open for interpretation!

⚠️TW includes dark themes of suicide, mental illness ⚠️

creepy yet romantic

I really enjoyed this standalone book. It was delightfully gothic, with a decent amount of mystery, passion and spice. I liked the characters. There are lots of plot holes and unresolved mysteries. The ending is very abrupt. I searched to see if there was a second book, but there isn't.

Really enjoyed, but the ended sucked

Spicy, gothic, prophecies, mystery, love and murder - who can't resist a book like this!

I listened to this as an audible and it was amazing. Corvina, our main star is a grounded and beautiful soul, with unusual purple eyes. At 21, and after being homeschooled and isolated by her mum, she received a letter being accepted to join Verenmore University.

What does she have to lose? Living on her own now, she decides to dip her toes in the world of academics.

The dark enigma, of a professor at the school, named Vad Deveril, with his silver eyes and streaks in his hair catches her attention, and the chemistry and forbidden interest are palpable. His dark brooding and no-nonsense, harsh approach, makes most students keep their distance. Rumours of a romance with another student, who committed suicide, reach Corvina's ears, as well as other murders, missing people and haunted forests.

Highly recommend this book and author.

This is a standalone book, though RuNyx seems to be writing Arkana, set at the university in 1873. These and other books are on my wish list

I enjoyed it, but would have been a lot better with duet narration. You only have Aiden Snow read 2 chapters - was difficult to listen to at times.

Enjoyed … but
