About this listen

For love

For legacy.

FOR SCIENCE!

Maxim Volt has defended his rule against the depredations of industry, but a greater challenge awaits him.

Marriage.

For not only does he have to organize a rite of fealty, where the various powers of the Grimm Valley swear loyalty to him and his house, but he must fend off a bevy of sometimes murderous brides eager to become the mistress of the castle. Be they from the Hundred Houses of Europe, the vampire courts, or even the witch covens that lurk in the shadows of the forests, all would delight to rule Grimmwald at his side. As his wife.

Or his widow.

A great dramedy with some brilliant spice. Steampunk adventures, with a gothic twist, we get more development as our "hero" settles into his role of master. and by that, we mean the mad scientist lord of a castle. the writing brings to mind the sort of satire that Pratchett deployed in his discworld books - the country here is very reminiscent of Uberwald, the tropes deployed with clear intent!

there's also some very funny wordplay and nods to things like the thieves guild, and the townsfolk being quite happy with some evil overlord traditions.

the spice is great as well - very hot and heavy! but we don't get much in the way of an expansion to the harem - Beatrix and Delilah get more time but not much in the way of being brought in, plus the harem hasn't gelled as a group yet - still a bit of rivalry there.

it just makes me want book 3 - very worth your time for the world building alone!

excellent fun!
