Sumi is on top of the world. Well, as on top as one can be after learning a relative one never met has died, leaving one a small fortune. Taking this as a sign to follow her dreams, quitting her job, moving to Cambric Creek, and opening a flower shop is the obvious move. Applying for franchise ownership with a flower conglomerate seems so easy—they provide the equipment, the distribution contracts, and all she needs to do is front the money. But she didn't realize chasing after her dream might cause someone else to lose hold of their own.

Ranar never wanted to inherit the family business. There's an enormous pressure to keep his family business going . . . but as it is, brick and mortar flower shops are a notion of a bygone era. When an online flower conglomerate opens a shop in Cambric Creek, Ranar knows it's only a matter of time before he's forced to close the door. It doesn’t matter how pretty or how friendly the owner seems—she represents everything wrong in the industry, in his world. Sumi knows there's room for two flower shops in Cambric Creek, if only the owner of The Perfect Petal wasn't such an infuriatingly handsome jerk. When she joins an online server for local business owners, she decides it's the perfect opportunity to take Ranar down . . . if she doesn't wind up falling for him first.

Contains mature themes.

I usually like Nascostas books but this felt like it was trying way too hard in so many areas:
1. include SO much gen Alpha slang.
2. shoehorn in as much PC preaching as possible - large girls, foreign cultures, anti-white rhetoric, mature characters
3. erratic pacing - after months of back and forward then ending up as enemies, suddenly after a single rain shower walk, her internal monologue is thinking about marriage and, when talking to his daughter, bizarrely she's thinking about being her step mom and making pancakes after being rattled by her dad - before they're even on good terms and before they've kissed?! Then he's in her bed a day later... I listened several times because I was sure I'd missed something but nope...
4. the male and female VA have totally different tones for the characters and it sounds totally whiny when the male VA does any female voice, and the female VA doesn't do any of the accents for the characters, it's very disorienting.
5. reading text messages in a book works, but reading text messages aloud doesn't, especially if there are screen names.

so disappointed..
