I couldn’t get into this as much as her other books, but it was ok. I didn’t like many of the characters and how rushed the storylines felt. Especially the end.

Not her best

I thought this was a pretty decent idea for a story, a celebrity stalker and I did keep listening to the end. It’s a shame the characters were unlikeable and unbelievable.
It was really let down by the dreadful narration though. Who knows what the accents were meant to be, most of them sounded like robots. The supposed east end gangsters sounded like anything but and the main character was just a whinge bag.

Good story, awful narrator

The story had some weak points, it dragged a bit and the main character seemed a bit naive and passive at times. But it got better towards the end.

Easy listen

Finished it in a few days, loads of tension and really well written. Interesting study about power dynamics and celebrity culture

Tense and full of great characters

For a while, I couldn’t figure out if this was a terrible book or a bad narrator. I think it’s ultimately a bit of both - language is just not written naturalistically, and I didn’t buy the characters at all.

However the worst part by far is the utterly bizarre narration. At first I thought I’d accidentally set my device to half speed but nope! It’s not only slow but intonation is weirdly placed on phrases and it feels like the narrator doesn’t quite understand what the author was trying to say at points. I’ve never heard anything like it! It almost sounds like a computer generated voice. There’s no acting, just (poor) reciting.

If you’re still tempted by the plot, PLEASE don’t make the mistake I did and do ensure you listen to the sample first so you know what you’re getting into!
