About this listen

Many years ago, the proudest animal in the jungle was not the peacock. The proudest animal was the tiger. In this folktale from Vietnam, we see how Tiger's pride leads him to covet wisdom and, with the help of a wise farmer, earn his stripes.

Before Tiger had his stripes, he was afraid of the big, strong, horned Water Buffalo. It is certainly understandable, then, that the sight of Water Buffalo chained to a plow and doing Man’s labor should confuse poor Tiger.

Master storyteller and Shakespearean actor Rob Cleveland won a World Storytelling Honor Award for Young Listeners for this audiobook version of the short Vietnamese folk tale, How Tiger Got His Stripes. Listeners are sure to enjoy Cleveland’s fun voices and easy pacing as they hear of Tiger’s quest for the wisdom of Man.
