Want to write a book but have no idea where to start? Whether you dream of writing nonfiction, memoir, or fiction or simply have an idea you cannot stop thinking about, writing your first book can feel overwhelming. This beginner-friendly guide breaks the process down into practical steps so you can move from blank page to finished manuscript without feeling lost.
In this audiobook, you'll discover:
- how to develop and organize your ideas before writing
- practical ways to stay motivated and finish what you start
- how to build a writing habit that actually works
- what the writing process really looks like from beginning to end
- common mistakes first-time authors make and how to avoid them
- strategies for handling editing, overwhelm, and self-doubt
This is not a grammar textbook or an advanced craft guide. It is a practical roadmap designed for people who have never written a book before but want honest guidance on how to finally begin. Writing a book is not just about putting words on a page. It is about learning how to keep going when motivation fades, when self-doubt shows up, and when the process feels bigger than expected.
If you have always wanted to write a book but never knew where to start, this audiobook will help you take the first step.

©2021 Lauren Bingham (P)2026 Lauren BinghamThe author seems really nice. She's easy to like and so we do. There's nothing offensive or downright wrong in this book, either, and the narration is pleasant. All of which makes it hard to be honest a.k.a. critical. The problem is, however: there's nothing new here. Any listener who has had at least a fleeting glance at writing, already knows (as good as) everything in here. For those for whom this really is their first book on writing: there are other books with far more value. (This is not a particularly useful summary of those books, either.)
The author seems to be aware of that, as she mentions one of her previous books has been harshly critiqued as "nothing new, just a collection of facts readily available on the internet" (or words to that effect). She goes on to say she has no problem with that. In fact, she's happy with it. Well ... it shows.
This audio book is free of charge, so no real harm done. I'm even giving it 3 stars as it's pleasant to listen to. There is, however, almost nothing to learn from it. So if you really want to gain insight into writing a book, you should probably look elsewhere.
