About this listen

How do I give myself to God completely? What happens when I do?

This is a book for everyone who has ever asked these questions.

I Dared to Call Him Father is the fascinating true story of Bilquis Sheikh, a prominent Muslim woman in Pakistan who faced these questions at the crossroads of her life and found the astonishing answers. Her unusual journey to a personal relationship with God turned her world upside down - and put her life in danger - as a series of strange dreams launched her on a quest that would forever consume her heart, mind, and soul.

Originally published in 1978, the book has sold 300,000 copies and is a classic in Muslim evangelism.

Bilquis Sheikh came from a family in Pakistan that held government power for seven hundred years. She was also the wife of a high ranking government official in Pakistan. She gave her life to Jesus Christ in 1966. In 1972, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse, she resettled in the United States, where she spoke widely and shared her faith with many. Years later she returned to Pakistan, where she died in 1997. She was given a Christian funeral.

Critic reviews

I Dared to Call Him Father is a fascinating autobiography that challenged me in my walk with God. How many of us would be true to our faith if we knew that embracing Christianity could be our death sentence?” (Mary Ann Littrell, Christian Librarian)

Wonderful, truthful and truly enriching book.

A story that demonstrates the beauty of a relationship with Jesus. How important it is to focus on Him and His instructions for the present rather than the patterns of my past walk with Him!

Faith stirring

As a cradle catholic I was in awe of her simple yet profound faith and obedience. Loved hearing about her idyllic life in Pakistan sand enjoyed the almost lyrical language and story telling. Beautiful and moving story and highly recommend to anyone including those who doubt God or the super natural

Fabulous book!

this narrator is at the top of her game and joined the elite few of her number who manage to flawlessly read a book and even add to its magic by their professional and sensitive contribution. (this should be the audible yardstick of acceptable narration rather than the many monotonous poor narrations that manage to ruin an otherwise good work that we have to suffer!)
this true story of bilquis sheikhs' conversion to Christianity was riveting from the get-go. it gave more than a little insight into upper-class Pakistani life, it's culture, and the rise of religious intolerance paralleled by Pakistani nationalism.
I will take away particularly the portrayal of Bilquis' fledgling relationship with Jesus and his gentle leading of her to greater maturity.
my faith has been challenged and my prayer is that I may become as utterly dependent on Him as she chose to be, and as used.
something here for the Muslim wanting to learn more of Christianity, the Christian longing to learn more about non-Christian societies, and those of no faith about the intimacy, security and delight a relationship with Jesus Christ brings.

fabulous narrator fabulous content
