Summary

After a freak lightning accident zaps him dead, 15-year-old Mochizuki Touya wakes up to find himself face-to-face with God.

“I am afraid to say that I have made a bit of a blunder...” laments the old coot. But all is not lost! God says he can reincarnate Touya into a world of fantasy, and as a bonus, he gets to bring his smartphone along with him!

So begins Touya's adventure in a new, anachronistic pseudo-medieval world. Friends! Laughs! Tears! Inexplicable Deus ex Machina! He sets off on a journey full of wonder as he absentmindedly travels from place to place, following whatever goal catches his fancy. The curtains lift on an epic tale of swords, sorcery, and smartphone apps!

Love this I enjoyed the anime and this helped flesh out the story with a few extras.

Loved the audio book

So, I'm going to begin this by saying that if your in the market for an epic tale of adventure, look elsewhere. This series exemplifies many of the issues the Isekai genre has as a whole, in addition to having some standard Japanese storytelling problems, including an MC whos density approaches that of Osmium.

So why have I given it 5 stars? Well, part of the reason is because the Anime was one of the first Isekai's I watched, but also because if you approch it from the view of it being more slice of life with some fighting, it becomes a lot better. Its not a story with high stakes and epic action, its a story about an overpowered kid just pootling around a phantasy world with his gaggle of gorgeous gals. If you look at it from that perspective, its perfectly serviceable and provides a good distraction for when your doing something simple and mindless like cleaning. The performance from the VAs was also pretty good and managed to differentiate the voices of the characters nicely as well, so thats a bonus.

TLDR, if you want an actually good story, try So I'm a Spider, if you want a chill time, this does the job.

A good romp, if you approach it right.
