About this listen

A Frontier World. A Hidden Threat. A Fight for Survival.

The colony of Tellus was meant to be a beacon of progress on the rugged world of Val 4, a testament to humanity's ability to tame the wilds of space. Built on the bones of an abandoned settlement, it is a place of ambition and opportunity, where scientists, corporate interests, and frontier settlers carve out a living against an unforgiving landscape.

But something is wrong beneath the surface.

When a ship crashes in the wastelands beyond Tellus, its arrival sets off a chain of events that will push the colony to its breaking point. Isolated, locked down, and cut off from the rest of civilization, the people of Tellus must confront a terrifying unknown. The air grows thick with whispers of corporate secrets, lost experiments, and dangers that lurk in the shadows.

As former soldier Ryder Holt and a small band of survivors navigate the chaos, they must face the truth about what's happening to their colony, and how far they're willing to go to save it.

With time running out and the lines between man and monster blurring, Incident on Val 4 is a gripping tale of survival, mystery, and the untamed dangers of the final frontier.

Fortunately, I found the e-book through Amazon Kindle Unlimited. Upon first glance, I assumed this book was science fiction. I was unaware this was a zombie novel. I don't often enjoy zombie stories; however, I found the book quite enjoyable. Because I liked the story, I wasn't sure if I should give it a higher overall grade or a lower rating due to the subpar performance. Since this is an audiobook, I ultimately gave a lower rating due to performance. I'll give the e-book 4-4.5 stars on Amazon.

The audiobook narrator had a lovely voice, and he was adept at handling women's voices. Unfortunately, what made him unlistenable was his speech was staccato. Some conversations were read normally and with emotion. However, the stiff narrated sections were off-putting. I tried changing the speeds to see if that made a difference, but it didn't. After three attempts, I gave up and decided to read the written word instead. I'm pleased I did since it worked out beautifully. The tale is worth buying!

The story was about a world where humans and others came to settle on and some who landed became infected zombies. The main characters were developed nicely, and you cared about what happened to them. You were sorry for those who lost the battle to the infected and happy for the survivors. The author created a world that was believable and I liked that while it was descriptive, it wasn't gory. The writing was tight and it kept me interested because I wanted to know what happened to the characters. I wanted them to prevail. The ending was fulfilling in that it was a standalone story yet still opened the doors for sequels. I hate cliff-hangers! lol.

I would read this author again; however, I am not sure I would try the narrator again. I can't wait to see what this author writes next. I am thankful to the author for giving me a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily leaving a review that is 100% of my own opinions.

DNF audiobook, but I quite enjoyed the story

I had a good time with this story. The world was believable (greedy corporations anyone?) and the characters worked for me. It's good old fashioned disaster-happens-try-not-to-die.

Enjoyable survival action
