Where do comedians come from?

Why is it that one person is a funny bloke down the pub while another actually makes a living by standing up in front of an audience telling jokes?

And where does all that material come from?

Well, young Lee McKillop used to wonder that too.

Growing up in his parents’ pub, small and wiry in a world of bigger and chunkier specimens, Lee quickly learned that cracking jokes was a way to get attention. After a somewhat random series of jobs, which included being Red Rum’s stableboy and a bingo hall barman, it was as a Great Yarmouth holiday camp entertainer that he had his first crack at telling jokes on stage. It got him some laughs, the sack and a punch in the face.*

Now, as Lee Mack, he’s one of our best loved and most successful comedians, both as a live stand-up and on television. In Mack the Life, Lee tells the story of how he got there and gives extraordinary insight into what really makes comics tick. Hilarious and brilliant, it’s the kind of book which reminds you why you learned to read in the first place.

Very funny, as expected. A great insight in to a genius comedy mind . I hope he writes the second book.

Excellent listen .

it's gentler and less funny than his interviews on chat shows, and you don't really get the feeling you're getting to the inner man, as even in the spoof psychiatrist's interviews his comedy monologue iobserver s running throughout. but it is an amusing book which fans of Lee Mack will love

I love Lee Mack and I loved this book. I listened to most of it while out walking the dog and my constant snorts and chuckles scared away other dogwalkers... bonus! His delivery is flawless and I loved his chats with 'Brian' the psychiatrist. Buy it... you won't regret it.... especially if you're thinking of going into comedy. P.S. I once met, and annoyed, Lee whilst quite inebriated and my toes still curl when I think about it. Lee, I hope this review goes some way to making amends!

Funny, entertaining and insightful

At first I thought it was a bit superficial but the more time I spent with him the more engrossed I became in his story so I found myself surprisingly having to finish the book in 2 days.

The author is more sensitive and considerate to other people than I would have given him credit for and he’s genuinely humble about how he’s improved his life and really achieved such a lot. And it sounds like a lot of graft more than luck, he really wanted to make it and he did.

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it. Good weekend and holiday listening.

I really enjoyed this book, it was interesting to learn of Lee's background and how he got in to comedy. Lee reads the book himself which made a lot of difference to having some stranger read it. Lee delivers each line in his own unique way and this had me entertained throughout. Big thanks to Lee Mac
