I was on the brink of death and an angel pulled me from its clutches.

Rati

At a club barbeque we were shot up by enemies. I was with our VP's daughter and covered her body to shield her from the gunfire. Thankfully, she was spared from the bullets, but I wasn't as lucky.

I could barely breathe and blood was effortlessly flowing out of my body. The club kept me alert until the paramedics got there, and the woman in the back kept me awake. She told me things and was kind. I knew in that moment I wanted to see her again, but now it's months later and I think I've lost out on my chance of finding her again.

By chance I ran into her again in the most unexpected of places. I wasn't going to let her go this time. I was going to make sure she knew I was grateful to her for everything she did, and I'd make sure she knew exactly how pleasurable a great man like me could make her.

Gwen was my guardian angel, but she didn't know it yet.

I am completely hooked on Elizabeth Knox's Raiders of Valhalla universe! This series stands out because it brings a refreshing, unique twist to traditional motorcycle club stories. Malevolent completely delivers on that front, offering an exciting and refreshing plot. The romance between Rati and Gwen is fantastic. Technically, it is a slow-burn romance, but the dynamic is so fun because Rati is entirely all in before he even knows her name! The character development is wonderful, making them highly relatable as they navigate personal challenges, insecurities, and the strength of their found family.Even though this is a quick, bite-sized listen, the story feels incredibly well-developed because of how the subplots intertwined with other characters from the series. The pacing flows beautifully, the spice is great, and the audiobook narration is top-notch. I am definitely going to continue to eat up this series!

Brilliant narration from Jason Fella

Rati is a protector and when shots are being fired, he throws himself over a litter girl to stop her getting hurt. In doing so he is shot. Gwen, is the paramedic, that arrives at the scene and helps safe his life. From the start Rati knows she is his.
Both of them have gone through hurt and pain. Gwen father is an abusive alcoholic and her now ex never care about what she wants. So staying at her friend’s house while she sorts out what she wants and needs.
Rati lost his sister to their father’s drunken violence. He knows he must keep and protect Gwen the way he couldn’t protect his sister.
Oh the emotions, spice, twists and great characters.

Gwen has recently ended her engagement to her self-centered fiancé and finds herself needing a place to stay when returning home places her in danger. While waiting for her friend to pick her up Rati happens to be at the same place at the same time and that is all it would take to bring them together

Rati is a member of the MC who first met Gwen when her job as a paramedic saved his life. When their paths cross again he knows that they are meant to be together and will do whatever is necessary to protect her.

The difficult pasts that both Gwen and Rati have endured brings them closer and with the help of the MC they fight to overcome all the outside forces trying to drive them apart. Jason Fella was a great story to bring out the best both when it comes to the story and the characters.

This one just didn’t work for me. The writing felt rough, and while I don’t think a different narrator would’ve completely saved it, the narration definitely didn’t help—it actually made it harder to get through at times. I listened to the first two books and thought the stories were decent (even with the same narration issues), so I went into book three hoping for more of that, but this one felt like a big step down.

The romance progression in particular didn’t land for me—it felt rushed and unrealistic. That said, there were still a few moments that were fun or interesting, so it wasn’t a total loss… just mostly a miss for me.

The narration is still pretty flat, with very little change in tone, even in scenes that should feel intense or emotional. It made some moments come across oddly calm when they shouldn’t have been, which pulled me out of the story.

And somehow, even with all that, I’ll probably try the next book. At this point, I’m hoping it lands closer to the first two—because clearly I can’t look away. 😅
