About this listen

Now a major tv drama starring Martin Clunes.

What does it take to catch one of Britain's most feared killers?

Levi Bellfield is one of the most notorious British serial killers of the last fifty years - his name alone evokes horror and revulsion, after his string of brutal murders in the early 2000s.

At 3:07pm on 21st March, 2002, Milly Dowler left her school in Surrey for the last time. Less than an hour later, she was to be abducted and murdered in the cruellest fashion, sparking a missing person investigation that would span months before her body was found.

In the two years that followed, two more young women - Marsha McDonnell and then Amélie Delagrange - were murdered in unspeakably brutal attacks.

Yet with three murdered women on their hands, and few leads open to them, investigating officers were running out of ideas and options, until SIO Colin Sutton was drafted into the investigation for the murder of Delagrange. Seeing a connection between the three women, and thriving under the pressure of a serial killer hunt, Sutton was finally able to bring their murderer to justice after the case had begun to seem hopeless.

Manhunt tells the story of how he led the charge to find a mystery killer, against the clock and against the odds - day by day and lead by lead. At once a gripping police procedural, and an insight into the life of an evil man, this is the story behind what it takes to track down a shockingly violent murderer before he strikes again.

A great detective story about a truly evil series of crimes. It also provides a fascinating insight into the police force, not all of it flattering. And some very good observations about lawyers, and especially those who put their pursuit of their own wealth ahead of truth. I highly recommend this book.

Couldn’t stop listening. More than your average true crime story

an excellent book written by lead investigator dealing with just how obnoxious this killer was. it also dealt several well aimed and deserved swipes at a press who proved themselves as selfish as the killer in their impatience to write an over exaggerated headline causing several crimes which were only part way through deliberation by the jury to have to be dropped. an excellent book all round. Well worth a listen

Excellent

This is extremely good and compelling listening. There are a few things that I personally would not have included, for example the comment by an unnamed Barrister having a cigarette about the trial judge, but I suppose they are there to try and lighten the mood a little and add a human touch in a very inhuman case.

A great listen (unless you are Surrey Police!)

Had to stop listening halfway through to get on with my day. Finished in the evening though! Although I really enjoyed the television series, this book tells real story. It is the story of one man's obsessive compulsion with catching a serial killer, He is haunted by the prospect of further tragedy unless the killer is stopped. The usual detective standby of forensics don't indicate a suspect, so enormous lengths are gone to, trying to get a breakthrough in the investigation.

The best thing I can say about the narration, is that you believe Peter Noble IS Colin Sutton.

Absolutely Compelling

I was unsure of whether to purchase as I saw other reviews talking of mr Sutton’s supposed “overinflated ego”. All I can say is I’m glad I took a chance.
I think Mr Sutton’s accomplishment in securing the evidence against belfield is something he should be extremely proud of- particularly when contrasted against Surrey’s poor job in exploring the evidence in the milly dowler case; and found the book not at all egotistical. Quite the contrary.
It was extremely interesting listen, although desperately sad, to discover the true depth of the evidence against belfield and how truly evil his character is. I was particularly intrigued to hear of his linked phone calls to the metropolitan police although it was not throughly discussed.
Excellent read and well done Mr Sutton and your wonderful team.
