Author and music industry insider Ben Wardle has interviewed scores of Mark Hollis’ friends, musicians, collaborators and record company executives to complete this important and substantial biography.

This is well-researched, balanced and very interesting, performed in an engaging way. There is very little speculation about Hollis the man, rather the accounts of those who had the sometimes dubious honour of working with this prodigy paint a picture of the parts of him he chose to show, itself very telling. I was entertained throughout, highly recommend.

Essential listening for the Talk Talk enthusiast

Amazing biography of Mark Hollis. Narrated by the auther himself. Very pleasant voice. As a huge Talk Talk fan, there was still so incredibly much info I never knew that gets covered here.

A must for Talk Talk fans

A Perfect Silence ... What a SPELLBINDING biography, read beautifully by the author, Ben Wardle, too. Thank you, Ben.

Utterly superb!

A necessary, extremely detailed and well written biography of the late, great Mark Hollis. I've been a fan since The Colour of Spring and Spirit of Eden is in my top 3 LPs, and I'd happily accepted Mark's role as reluctant pop star, post-rock originator and subsequent retirement, as I could return to his impeccable albums and know him through his works. I didn't care much about the man himself.

What this book does is position Mark to be much as I expected as a person, while opening my mind to his working practices and obsessions, which goes a long way to enhancing the experience of listening to his work, as I had no idea of the complexity of his process.

A very fine book, which, while enjoyable as an audiobook is, ironically, marred by poor sound editing and variable sound quality (particularly in the early chapters).
