Eight is Paul Gascoigne’s legacy—the audiobook which will define Paul, the man the world knows as simply Gazza.

Once described as the most gifted English footballer of all time, Paul looks back on his meteoric journey to the pinnacle of the globe’s most popular sport, the struggles he has faced and his battle to rise up once again.

Now, 35 years on from the Italia 90 World Cup that saw ‘Gazza’ hit dizzying heights and become internationally famous—for his talent and those semi-final tears—Paul is still a household name and someone who transcends football.

As Paul moves forward with his life, he is now able to look back at it with a renewed sense of self, and a better grasp of what was really happening at the time.

Honest, raw, moving and ultimately uplifting, Eight will show the world Paul Gascoigne as never before.

I think the best thing about this book is that it touches your emotions so strongly. At various stages you feel sorry for Gazza, sometimes annoyed, sometimes really pleased for him. Sometimes you think he’s so immature he deserves everything he gets, sometimes you just want to give him a hug. It’s a rollercoaster of a ride.

If you’re looking for all the usual football tales of high jinks, look elsewhere. This isn’t it. There’s some but not much. Gazza has left that to everyone else and let’s face it, it’s been said and done.

Here is a much more stripped back story going into depth about some great times but also his struggles with OCD, alcoholism, fame, paranoia and more.

It’s pretty brutal, but it’s a brilliant listen and a must for anyone wanted to truly get under the skin of one of the England’s greatest ever players. It took a little time to get used to the narrator’s style and sometimes I felt he was a bit flat when the whole thing needed more energy, but it’s a small gripe.

An excellent and honest account of Gazza’s ups and downs

I absolutely loved this audio book, I’ve read other Gazza books before but I feel this is such an honest biography, as he states, he’s nothing now to hide. What a player he was, I was lucky to see him play at Rangers, but he was world class. Addiction is an awful thing and feel for him for the alcohol addiction amongst others but it was so well put together and heartfelt. I never leave a review, but this was awesome and Gazza, you were the best.

Raw and real story from Paul, his highs at football and many lows with alcohol and addiction. Wishing him well for the future!

Eight by Paul Gascoigne perfectly narrated by David Nellist. The bad language did spoil it for me.
