About this listen

From the multi-award winning author of Him comes another mind-bending psychological horror that speaks to the darkest recesses of the human psyche.

After suffering a brutal and random attack, Daniel Henderson is left fighting for his life. As he embarks on the long road to recovery, he begins experiencing disturbing visions. Fleeting and half-glanced, they are visions of women being murdered, women who are victims of the Tallyman, the notorious serial killer whose reign of terror began forty years ago.

As Daniel’s family start to put back together the pieces of their life, Daniel dismisses his visions as traumatic hallucinations. But as they become more vivid, he finds himself haunted by details that only the killer could know.

Tormented by memories that aren't his own, soon Daniel is driven to hunt down a killer who’s murders have loomed over his entire life. Sacrificing sanity itself, Daniel begins on a terrifying journey into madness to confront a darkness more warped and unexpected than he could ever have imagined.

Narrated by James McAvoy, and perfect for fans of Stephen King and John Marrs, JD Kirk delivers another terrifying blockbuster which shines a light on the hidden evil buried within us all.

Delightfully dark in the best possible way, I couldn't stop listening once I started. I kept trying to predict which way it would end but the twists kept coming while being satisfying and without ever feeling over-written. McAvoy's narration was perfect. A great thriller that's impossible to define in a single genre!

Gripping till the end

It's a slow build and the description of panic as read by James McAvoy is probably the most impressive verbalisation of a panic attack I have heard.
The slow realisation of what you think you know along with Daniel is clever and increasingly wild and satisfyingly novel. A gripping tale of the human minds battle between good and evil. This deserves a film version

James McAvoy' narration was brilliant. totally enthralled

The fact that Danny was sure of his facts all along and that he was ‘remembering things that happened before he was born made me believe that he wasn’t the Tally Man and yet, sometimes there was a flash of something more sinister in him.
I loved the mystery of it all. Everyone that Danny suspected of being the Tally Man, I thought of too. That was until the end. A very surprising finale.
Excellent story telling by both J D Kirk and James MacAvoy.
