About this listen

The acclaimed best-selling classic of Holocaust literature, winner of the Booker Prize and the inspiration for the classic film Schindler's List.

In the shadow of Auschwitz, a flamboyant German industrialist grew into a living legend to the Jews of Cracow. He was a womaniser, a heavy drinker and a bon viveur, but to them he became a saviour. A stunning novel based on the extraordinary true story of German war profiteer and factory director Oskar Schindler, who came to save more Jews from the gas chambers than any other single person during World War II.

In this milestone of Holocaust literature, Thomas Keneally, author of Daughter of Mars, uses the actual testimony of the Schindlerjuden - Schindler’s Jews - to brilliantly portray the courage and cunning of a good man in the midst of unspeakable evil.

This was a tough listen not just because of the story but the amount of detail. This is be expected though as it is not a novel but a highly factual account of a very dark time in history. I feel it is a book that needs to be heard/read by all. 'lest we forget'

Loved it. Difficult subject but thoughtfully broached. Narration top drawer! Going to watch the film again.

Having witnessed a few concentration camps, this book made me really appreciate how horrendous the sheer brutality of the prisoners lives had been affected. There were times i shed a tear and others i laughed out loud.

A very moving & memorable book

To be a failure then when you are needed most to answer that call to help protect the most vulnerable. Then to fail again is the story of Schindler it’s compelling, humbling and hope bringing.

Cometh the hour cometh the man - will you be that man?
