Miles Bennet has spent years being told he wasn’t enough. Now, he’s ready to belong to someone who sees his worth—even when he can't see it himself. Darren Quinn is everything Miles needs: commandingly steady, unshakably certain and resolutely protective. His quiet strength and tender control ignites a passion in Miles that turns surrender into deep devotion.

As their relationship evolves from from the sanctuary of the club to the reality of home, Miles discovers not just pleasure, but a love that heals his past wounds and empowers him to embrace his true self. Yet when Darren’s world collides unexpectedly with Miles’s protective sister, secrets threaten to unravel everything. Can trust—and love—prevail when the boundaries of power, vulnerability, and acceptance are tested?

The quiet, earnest vulnerability of Heated Rivalry meets the profound healing and protective authority of a Nora Phoenix hero in this steamy, heartfelt M/M journey of surrender, second chances, and the courage to be seen.

After being captivated by the first two volumes of the “Intricate Ties” series, I was really looking forward to this one, and since the story builds on the previous ones, I recommend reading the series in order. The author’s writing style was wonderful, and once again I was quickly drawn into the story of Miles and Darren.
This volume is told alternately from Miles’s and Darren’s perspectives, and it focuses less on their sessions and more on the relationship developing between them and their everyday lives, as they spend more and more time together in their free time. I also loved that we get to read both POVs again this time.
While Darren continues to take care of Miles, Miles is also actively looking for ways to meet Darren’s needs. He’s staying over at Darren’s place more and more often. Miles also faces a few challenges: For one, he’s supposed to meet Darren’s friends and present the results of his training. It’s only natural that he’s super nervous about that. And then there’s a planned meeting between Darren, Miles’s sister Ashley, and his mentor Sasha, which turns out a bit differently than originally planned—but read it for yourself.

I found it remarkable how their relationship develops, and even as Darren faces more stress at work, Miles is there for him, and the power dynamic between them slowly shifts—which I really liked. Miles is gaining more and more self-confidence, and he sorely needs it.
I’ve really grown fond of these two, and the series fascinates me more and more. The story was entertaining and emotional, even if it wasn’t quite as steamy as in the first book.
I’m looking forward to the fourth book to see how their journey continues!

Tyler Laux did an absolutely fantastic job narrating this book as well. He did a great job perfectly capturing the right emotions. As a listener, you immediately feel the protagonists’ emotional state. He gave the protagonists voices that fit them perfectly, and yes, I really like his deep voice for Darren.
But the other narrators—Brittany Bryan, Luulu Soul, Kat Dawson, and Jo Ryder—also did a great job!
It was once again an absolute pleasure to listen to this audiobook!

A great continuation of the series
