This is not just any haunted house story. I loved the Filipino folklore and accents used in the narration, and the displacement of the main character who is of Filipino heritage but doesn’t speak the language in her new country was an interesting setup. However, the disintegration of the main characters’ marriage due to fertility issues and his devastating accident is where this impacted me. The resentment that builds when a couple is faced with tough times like this really hit me hard. And I think when an ending of a book has you crying in M&S, it’s earned it’s 5 stars from me.
