Maisie Brennan is standing on a podium on the 20th anniversary of the death of her son, trying to find the first breath that will help her start talking to a room full of strangers.

A daunting task at the best of times, but she's also menopausal and one hot flush away from totally losing it. But as Maisie begins her story, she relaxes and, word by word, disappears into her past, back to the day when one mistaken action led to a chain of events that changed her life forever....

Highly recommended!

This is a wonderful book that builds a thriller over many chapters. The narration is wonderful. There is a beauty about this book in the way it deals with some very sensitive relationship issues extremely well. ( No spoilers) Just get it. A brilliant story.

Couldn’t stop listening. Aiofe McMahon is my favourite narrator and she did a great job as always. The story keeps you interested right the way through. A worthy contender for your precious monthly credit.

Engaging, moving story

Wow-this book is so beautifully written-you fully immerse yourself with each individual character. Aofie McMahon is the most superb narrator. I sobbed for a good 10 minutes after I finished. I urge anyone to read this book.

One of the best books I have ever listened to

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Thouroughly recommend as I had to concentrate to get into it which is a welcomed distraction from the real world. Sometimes I hear an audio and imagine the words as scenes and sometimes as the narrator reading me a story. This one embraced both. Sensitive and not sloppy,

Who was your favorite character and why?

Valerie. I warmed to her mix of feisty and vunerable character.

What does Aoife McMahon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The intonation guided how to translate what was happening with the characters. So consistent that i knew exactly who was who along the way that I could be absorbed totally in the book. It felt like I knew them by the end.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I have Bluetooth speakers around the house and an ear bud while outdoors-dog walking, on the bus, waiting for appointments. Kept going as much as possible through the day and evening.

Any additional comments?

The book topic has glued to me and had an effect on my way of thinking. This doesn't make me bad for not having full appreciation of how complex we can all be from our surroundings, life paths and our own needs. One silly thing is that I thought this was going to a bit chick-lit because of the cover- I am so glad that the audio sample drew me in. Thank you to the Author, Narrator and all involved.
