I did not know hyper-functioning was a recognised pattern until Chapter One, but once I heard it described I could not unhear it. I had been achieving on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside and had not even questioned whether that was a problem. About eighteen months ago I reached a point where I was holding everything together on the outside and quietly falling apart inside. I found this audiobook and started listening with very little hope. By the end of Phase One I understood for the first time why people who seem to be managing well are often the most burned out.
The concept of hyper-functioning as a coping mechanism completely reframed how I understood myself. Chapter Seven on overgiving was the most uncomfortable listen because it was so accurate. The Energy Leak Audit showed me exactly what my emotional reserves were actually being spent on.
By the time I reached the Rebuild phase I was properly ready to do the work.

Chapter Seven's Energy Leak Audit was one of the most clarifying exercises I have ever done from a book.
