About this listen

It was a mistake to trust him. Shivering and bruised, a teen wakes up on the side of a dirt road with no memory of how she got there—or who she is. The police don’t know where she came from until a frantic man arrives at the station. He’s been searching for her for hours. He has her school ID, her birth certificate, and even family photos.

He is her father. Her name is Mary. Or so he says. When Lola slammed the car door and stormed off into the night, Drew thought they just needed some time to cool off. Except Lola disappeared. Now his friends, the sheriff, and the whole town are convinced Drew murdered his girlfriend. Forget proving his innocence—he needs to find her. The longer Lola is missing, the fewer leads there are to follow … and the more danger they both are in.

I had the audiobook of this Debut YA mystery suspense read by Sophie Amos and Robb Moreira. Good voices for both main characters and adds interest and feeling to the story.

The story is told from two perspectives a teenager with memory loss after an accident who is told that her name is Mary. The other is Drew who is the main suspect in his girlfriend Lola’s disappearance, as the police aren’t looking for her as they have already determined the narrative he is trying to find her.

I really felt for Drew and his predicament, he was my favourite character, my heart went out to him.

Memory loss trope isn’t a favourite for me, but I have to say this one is really well done. It really adds to the suspense. It keeps a good pace and level of interest throughout. It’s tense, but also quite emotional which is a good blend for me. I highly recommend it.

Gripped from the beginning. Good story with lots of emotion. Excellent narration. Not sure why some reviews say young adults as suitable for all.
