After listening to the first book I dived straight into this, the first book layed down the groundwork introducing the characters and setting, now we are getting right into the mysteries and history of Belrose Abbey. Darker and grittier than the previous book with much more action and suspense, this is an addictive rabbit hole and I can't wait for the next part.

The second part of Dauphine and her daughter Anna's experiences at Melrose Abbey. Another exciting episode in the story, told by Anna and Dauphine, after her mother has inherited the Abbey there is a lot of work to do and their unsettled servants are not to be trusted to tell the truth, Strange events and the discovery of a hidden graveyard lead the 2 to a very disturbing discovery of things that happened in the recent past on the estate which are finally resolved at the end of the book. I'm disappointed to discover this is the last in the series as I thought there was plenty of room for a third book. Michelle Babb's great narration enhances what is a very good story as usual.

I enjoyed the second book in this series almost as much as I enjoyed the first one. Both books remind me of an Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels gothic story, which is a good thing! The narrator did an excellent job and I really enjoyed seeing how the romance subplot progressed. A great cozy read.

After the first book I was curious to see where this series would go and this was a very satisfying continuation of the first. The story picks up right where it left off and dives straight into questions that need answers!

I don’t want to give much away but this was definitely a great second in the series and leaves me wanting to know more.

As always, Michelle was very well read and does a great job as narrator yet again.
