The dazzling new novel from the best-selling author of Cloud Atlas.

Longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2014

Run away, one drowsy summer's afternoon, with Holly Sykes: wayward teenager, broken-hearted rebel and unwitting pawn in a titanic, hidden conflict.

Over six decades, the consequences of a moment's impulse unfold, drawing an ordinary woman into a world far beyond her imagining. And as life in the near future turns perilous, the pledge she made to a stranger may become the key to her family's survival....

Not gonna lie, I’m completely obsessed with David Mitchell’s work. This is the third book I’ve listened to and it was at least as good as Cloud Atlas, if not slightly better.

My only complaint is I’ve missed out on sleep, as to drift off I usually put on a book with a timer for 45 mins. But with all three of the Mitchell books thus far I’ve ended up laying awake listening to them for hours. Very hard to put down.

Holly Sykes’s story was fantastic. Absolutely recommended, with great performances across the various characters.

The reviews whinging about the final section maybe aren’t paying enough attention to what’s happening in the world.

I’m now off to look for my next DM fix :)

Another glorious David Mitchell tale

I enjoyed listening to this book, after having read it years ago. The performance was good and did not spoil the book for me. The audible version helped me work out what happened!

Enjoyable listen

This book amazed me. Beautifully told over many years, the past and the future. Interweaving the characters through mundane and fantastic stories. Loved Holly Sykes, so very human in amongst a world of magic and real monsters. I do wish I hadn’t read Slade House first but hey, it’s all good now. Loved it!

Brilliantly woven across time
