'A masterclass in crime fiction' Jane E James

When DI Barton is asked to investigate a seemingly innocuous fire that kills, he believes it's either children fooling around or a worrying racially-motivated crime.

As he delves deeper into the case, he soon realises that there is a history of similar blazes spread out over many years, all within a close area. An idea suggested by pathologist Mortis makes Barton suspect he has the arsonist’s motives wrong.

When a night worker comes forward with a tip, Barton narrows down the suspects. But with all of them acting suspiciously, he knows for sure that one or more of them must be lying. And when a huge house blaze shocks everyone, Barton fears the killer has lost all control.

Who is The Fire Killer? What will be next to burn?

DI Barton is back as Ross Greenwood continues with his bestselling series, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham and Ian Rankin.

Praise for Ross Greenwood:

'Move over Rebus and Morse; a new entry has joined the list of great crime investigators in the form of Detective Inspector John Barton. A rich cast of characters and an explosive plot kept me turning the pages until the final dramatic twist' Richard Burke

'Ross Greenwood doesn’t write clichés. What he has written here is a fast-paced, action-filled puzzle with believable characters that's spiced with a lot of humour' Kath Middleton

Enjoyed this very much and didn’t want it to end. I’ve really enjoyed the DI Barton series. This book is obviously new (Summer 2022) and I liked how the author had used lots of natural references to events, lifestyle and language style from these current times but in such a way that wholly fitted with the story (other authors I find shoe-horn such references in and it often comes across as lip service and just doesn’t fit right with their story..not so here it is excellently written)
The narrator, well what a hugely talented man, his accents and handling of the story is among the best I’ve come across and I’ve listened to hundreds of audio books.
I Highly recommend this series and this book.

Best yet in the series, brilliant

What a fantastic series this is. Can’t wait for the next chapter of Barton & Xander. Better if you read or listen in order, but it’s not paramount.
Would make a fantastic TV series.
Oh, and did I mention the phenomenal Narrator 🙌🏼

Great story, great narrator. Lots of plots that were like one huge jigsaw as Barton said. “All the pieces but it was putting them into the right places”. I also love the Barton and Zander relationship, their funny, emotional and serious banter. Such a good read I read it twice in succession.
