About this listen

PETER MAY: OVER 3 MILLION COPIES SOLD
'A TERRIFIC WRITER' MARK BILLINGHAM
'WONDERFULLY COMPELLING' KATE MOSSE

In the second novel in the China series, Li Yan and Margaret Campbell are reluctantly reunited, on the trail of a killer reenacting a series of gruesome rituals

THE SECOND OPINION

The Chinese police have once more been forced to enlist the services of American forensic pathologist Margaret Campbell: this time to investigate a series of four horrific ritual executions that have taken place in Beijing.

THE THIRD DEGREE

Detective Li Yan is determined to discover just how one of the victims in particular, an American diplomat, became caught up in the slaying. And he is arguably even more determined to have nothing to do with Campbell.

THE FOURTH SACRIFICE

The polarity that once attracted Yan and Campbell eventually pulls them back into partnership. Yet the closer they are drawn to the truth, the nearer they come to a killer prepared to use extreme force to conceal it.

Excellent story line and didn't expect the twist. I've now ordered the other Chinese thrillers.

Another good Peter May book

This was a fast moving and interesting story with lots of turns and twists.

I do like the bits of cultural and historical information that get slipped into the story, it really adds to the interest. The characters are very human with reactions that are 'true' and believable.

I love the way that Peter May writes, and I love the way that Peter Forbes narrates.

My only 'problem', and this is my own fault, is that with the names of characters being Chinese names - I tend to get a little confused about who's who, though I usually get it within the sentence.

Excellent story and lovely narration

Would you listen to The Fourth Sacrifice again? Why?

Probably not, but only because I want to read the next book in the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mmmmm difficult to say.

Have you listened to any of Peter Forbes’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I listened to 'Coffin Road' and agreed with Peter May when he said he couldn't imagine anyone else narrating his books, nor can I.

Slow start, but made up for it in the end!

Really like Peter May's books, empathetically read by Peter Forbes. A strong storyline is complemented by a depth of detail and web of graphic, well paced plots which keep you guessing to the very end.

Fantastic storytelling

As usual his stories keep you reading long after you should be asleep. Slightly formulaic but good nevertheless
