People have lost hope that peace is possible. Talking about peace seems too vulnerable, too naïve, too dangerous. We have resigned ourselves to this unending war as the only way forward. But we have tried this. We have tried war. The only war that is won is one that leads to peace.

On paper Aziz and Maoz should not be friends. Aziz’s brother was killed by Israeli forces, and Maoz lost both his parents in the 7 October 2023 attacks. In The Future is Peace, these two lifelong peace activists take readers on a searing journey to understand this holy, bloodstained land and explore each other’s personal and national histories.

Pairing unapologetic candour and inspirational prose, Abu Sarah and Inon are sending a message to humanity that the people have the power to make change. Peace is achievable, not just between Palestinians and Israelis, but throughout the world.

Critic reviews

"The achievement of Aziz Abu Sarah and Maoz Inon’s short but immensely poignant account of a shared journey across Israel and the West Bank is that it remains true to the horror while refusing to be defeated by it. It is raw with pain and rage and yet bravely insistent on the imperative of hope . . . They have the courage to insist that human beings can and must listen to one another’s stories and recognize their own suffering within them. Their moving and fortifying book does not show us the way to the far side of revenge, but it does convince us that it must exist." (FINTAN O'TOOLE)
"In the face of the suffering of these two brothers and the suffering of these two nations, I have no words. They have had the courage to embrace each other. Let us pray for peace, and for these two brothers to bring the will to work for peace to their people" (HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS)
"Only knowledge and understanding can create reconciliation and peace. Leave it to Aziz Abu Sarah and Maoz Inon, who made this remarkable book together, and there could be and would be peace in the Holy Land. Let this book be read all over the world by young and old, Muslim and Jew and Christian alike, and hate will shrivel and die. Then and only then can the seeds of peace can be sown. How we all need that. And how we all need this book" (MICHAEL MORPUGO)
"Hopeful and inspirational, The Future is Peace is a walk through the land and history of Israel and Palestine that shows how two peace activists - an Israeli and a Palestinian - respect each other's narratives and dare to dream magically of peace amidst the reality of conflict" (SIMON SEBAG-MONTEFIORE)
"How can we forget the courageous embrace between Maoz Inon, an Israeli whose parents were killed by Hamas, and Aziz Abu Sarah, a Palestinian whose brother was killed by the Israeli army. They are now friends and work with one another. That gesture remains as a testimony and sign of hope" (POPE LEO XIV)
"Two courageous, beautiful human beings" (CHRIS ANDERSON, head of TED)
"Aziz Abu Sarah and Maoz Inon are not only brilliant guides to the tortured geography of the Holy Land. They are guides for how to retain our humanity, no matter how much pain we endure. They remind us that, despite oppression, violence and even genocide, Israeli Jews and Palestinians can live together equally, with justice, and in peace" (PETER BEINART, author of Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza)
"The Future is Peace is a remarkable book that brilliantly captures 'the inescapable network of mutuality,' accessed so powerfully by Martin Luther King. It's a passionate book, carefully constructed and heartbreakingly true. The message is both simple and immense: we are all helixed together by our humanity. As a guide to the torn heart, it also allows a vision of repair" (COLUM MCCANN)

This publication presents a progressive pathway to achieving peace the world over... Senior leaders would do their citizens a great service to read/listen to this book and adopt its approach as the ONLY sustainable blueprint to bring about conflict resolution. Once those who've lived through years of atrocities can be seen and heard by their enemies, that psychologically safe space permits those uncomfortable conversations to occur... Only then can decades of intergenerational trauma begin to be released, as those that pay the real price of war - seeing death and living the devastation it perpetuates - are placed at the heart of those conversations; it fosters a psychologically safe space in which those uncomfortable conversations can be had, as its in discomfort that real lasting change will spring forth... I salute the authors for the example they themselves have set for others to follow...

One of the hardest books I've ever gotten through. The sorrow and loss is almost overwhelming just as a reader. I cannot imagine what it is like for all the people suffering it. It makes the story and the message that the authors are sharing just breathtaking. To endure all that they have, and to still maintain and promote a sense of hope and desire for peace and connection is truly incredible. We need more people like this in our shared world. I 100% recommend this book.

A compelling story of the visceral lived experience of two men - an Israeli and a Palestinian - who reached across ancient boundaries of volatility and hatred, became friends and started a movement towards peace, understanding and reconciliation. A great listen for anyone who holds hope for a better, brighter world, where we can live in harmony, despite our cultural differences. I loved it.

Beautiful. Powerful. Inspirational.
