Summary

Edith Hahn was an outspoken young woman in Vienna when the Gestapo forced her into a ghetto and then into a slave labor camp. When she returned home months later, she knew she would become a hunted woman, so she went underground.

She emerged in Munich as "Grete Denner". There she met Werner Vetter, a Nazi Party member who fell in love with her. Despite Edith's protests and even her eventual confession that she was Jewish, he married her and kept her identity secret.

Brilliantly written and narrated, from start to finish this one is very difficult to turn off, there were many times where I found myself thinking I'd just listen to a little bit more but ended up still there over an hour later. An ordinary first hand world war two account written from a housewife's perspective, no colourful or exaggerative language, just an honest real account of how it was to live through those years. At times thrilling, totally enthralling, a love story, family bonds explored, a mothers love from different sides, cruelty, passion, extreme fear, living a physical lie at the same time as another life still very much embedded on the soul, sheer determination and survival, above all hope, this book has it all and definitely well worth downloading.

These stories need to heared. Must never forget the suffering by many women during the Nazi Regime. This is a remarkable account of how Edith lived and survived the second world war.

Only negative was post script to find out what happened to her step- daughter.

A fascinating story but I found it difficult to keep up with at times in that it jumps from one event or story to another frequently throughout the book.

Fascinating but fast paced
