About this listen
Sex and rock & roll are my top priorities. I mean, let's face it, they're my only priorities.
As frontman of Austin's most popular metal band, I have it all. But when a car accident nearly kills my best friend, I'm rocketed back to memories of that horrible night, all those years ago when I lost my family at the hands of a drunk driver.
That's trauma I'd rather leave buried, so when Nicole, aka Arson Nic, the roller derby dynamo, skates into my bed, I'm more than happy to bury myself in her sweet solace. What I don't expect is to wake up with feelings.
When a once-in-a-lifetime tour opportunity takes me back to the Cherokee reservation where I grew up, I'll have to face the past I buried long ago if I want to take the road home to a future with Nicole.
Book two of the award-winning Lost in Austin series, The Road Home, is an interracial rockstar/roller derby romance that can be listened to as a standalone. It was the 2022 winner of the Readers' Favorite Gold Medal for Romance–Sizzle and a 2022 Next Generation Indie Book Awards Finalist for Multicultural Fiction.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fantastic audiobook production and listen performed by Maxine Mitchell and Gabriel Spires, who did an incredible job voicing the characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. Both embodied their characters completely, with Mitchell acing it as Nicole, showcasing every aspect of her personality and demeanor, from her angst to her fierceness to her vulnerabilities, before shedding it all and becoming who she truly was inside. Spires did the same as Jake and rocked it in the role, nailing every aspect of his personality and demeanor too, including his battles with his inner demons and his heart of gold. They were fantastic performing the roles of all the side/secondary characters too. Their expressive performance conveys all the characters’ emotions, making you feel every single one. These versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers, and their enthralling performance rivets you to the story.

Gabriel Spires and Maxine Mitchell are the story tellers for this and they pulled out all the stops when it comes to emotions. Spires is phenomenal as Jake. He delves into the mind of this character and pulls out all the feels in his portrayal. Mitchell is Nicole, with just enough snark and vulnerability to create a woman with real conflict and emotion. Together they are amazing.
Fabulous!
