About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, read by Katherine Fenton.

Around the world in Britain, the United States, Asia and the Middle East, there are people with power who are cashing in on chaos; exploiting bloodshed and catastrophe to brutally remake our world in their image. They are the shock doctors.

Exposing these global profiteers, Naomi Klein discovered information and connections that shocked even her about how comprehensively the shock doctors' beliefs now dominate our world - and how this domination has been achieved. Raking in billions out of the tsunami, plundering Russia, exploiting Iraq - this is the chilling tale of how a few are making a killing while more are getting killed.

It’s long, and it’s disturbing but this should be a must read for our times. The book is quite old now but the concepts remain the same. It’s interesting to see how the optimism of the conclusion has planned out now and it won’t take much for you to draw your own conclusions as to why. Incredible work.

A must read

Well written with clear themes. It suffers from a lack of serious and fair analysis of classical economic theory that gives the book a feeling of a conspiracy theory. Still worth reading for a good recent history lesson.

A good read but lacking in objectivity

Topical and highly informative. Recommended for anyone skeptical about the goodness of free markets and private interest.

Excellent. A harrowing read.

Post COVID-19, where some of the biggest wealth transfers have happened and the big pharma vaccine pushes. this book highlights that none of this is new and is a continuation of the corporatist agenda. excellent book, a must read!

Very relevant, even today!

Now it seems that the shock doctrine has come home to roost in the form of Elon Musk's DOGE.....

Still relevant today
