A wonderful story that should have been enhanced by being read well, however I was very disappointed, in fact I think I can honestly say the way it was read spoiled the story for me.

Disappointing

horrible sound, it was listening to it on long wave,
but apart from that great story.
reminded me of some parts of the dark tower

Fortunately I have read this book before and know that it's a fantastic story, well told. I was so fond of the book that I bought it on audio to listen to while I do my chores. *sigh* What a let down when the narrator kept going and making me think that he would be better suited to commentating at the horse races ... I felt like I was listening to a race!
I'm not sure if I will persevere and listen to the end, but if you can stand the breathless rush of the narrator you'll find it's an unforgettable story! Good Luck :)

Let down by the Narrator!!

loved it, yes the narrative is a little trying at first but soon this fall's away and you're left with a brilliant story. By the time you think of the narrative again that over dramatic end to each sentence has gone and the reading of the book is great.

brilliant

A wonderful road-trip coming of age novel set in a magical- realist world with peril and heroism a plenty. This reading renders the book unlistenable. The voice and phrasing is ludicrously overdone - think 'action movie trailer voiceover man.' Extraordinary what a difference the voice that reads the story makes. Every character speaks like Marge Simpson or one of her chain-smoking sisters. Every sentence ends in whisper. Too annoying, switched it off.
