'The very definition of a one-sitting read' ROBERT RUTHERFORD

Cam Killick left the special forces with a handful of medals, stories he can’t share and PTSD so bad he can only find peace under water. Working as a salvage diver in the Norfolk Broads keeps him sane, and the county’s many tales of the lost keep him busy.

And one particular local unsolved mystery calls to him.

Freddie and Maud Brindley and their children Tommy and Hannah left a party in 1987, and none of them, nor their green Jaguar, were ever seen again. Convinced he can succeed where others have failed, Cam begins his search – but when at last he finds the Jaguar at the bottom of a lake, it’s empty. No bodies. No real answers.

And suddenly finding the car itself is not enough. Cam has to know what happened to the Brindleys. But he needs to watch his back. Some secrets, once submerged, should stay that way.

A gripping, propulsive and atmospheric crime thriller perfect for fans of Ann Cleeves, Peter James and Elly Griffiths. Your new crime obsession starts here...©2025 Rob Parker (P)2025 Bloomsbury Publishing PLC

The most brilliant Norfolk-set thriller since Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway books and what feels like a nailed-on start to an absorbing new series

Compelling and so atmospheric, this is - quite literally - the perfect new crime series to dive into
Brilliant pacing and interesting characters make this a great addition to your to-be-read stacks (Nina Pottell)
What a romp! I raced through this murky tale of murder, aching mystery and long-buried truth like a hot knife through butter! Rob Parker is a master of the stone cold twist (Janice Hallett, author of Sunday Times bestseller The Appeal)
An immersive and action-packed thriller with characters you root for. Perfect for fans of M. W. Craven (Jo Callaghan, Sunday Times bestselling author of In the Blink of an Eye)
A story that propels you through the pages at a rate of knots and one that is the very definition of a one-sitting read (Robert Rutherford, Sunday TImes bestselling author of Seven Days)
Beautifully atmospheric ... I can't wait for the next outing (Fiona Cummins, bestselling author of All Of Us Are Broken)
Rob Parker is an effective creator of both characters and vigorous action scenes ... an exciting novel with some moving moments and a good twist
Brilliant
I finished this belter in a weekend. You'll need to tread carefully with this one, as once you plunge into The Troubled Deep you'll be so immersed that you might forget to come up for air (Trevor Wood, author of The Man on the Street)
Fresh and original, packed with smart storytelling, clever twists and turns, and memorable characters. I’m so invested – I can’t wait for the next instalment (Roxie Key)
I loved Cam. Flawed and broken, but undoubtably human, he’s brave, and loyal to a fault. A brilliant start to an exciting new series (Sam Holland, author of the Major Crimes series)
Riveting character-led thriller. Ace (Dom Nolan, author of White City)
Beautifully atmospheric … I can’t wait for the next outing (Fiona Cummins, author of All of Us are Broken)
Paints the Norfolk setting with beautiful brushstrokes, and in Cam Killick we meet a flawed hero who promises to captivate readers for years to come (Chris McDonald)
An intriguing mystery, heaps of atmosphere, and top notch writing. I'd expect no less (Louise Swanson)
You’ll rattle through this gripping thriller with its handbrake-turn twists, brooding atmosphere and compelling cast. A wholly unique concept that I really wish I’d thought of first. Can’t wait for the next one! (Russ Thomas, author of Firewatching)

This was a great read. I have zero interest in diving, but I bought this after a recommendation online. So glad I did, really enjoyed it. No spoilers, but it’ll keep you guessing till the end. The narrator captures the main characters personality brilliantly. Highly recommend if you want something a bit different.

Atmospheric and exciting

I enjoyed the characterisation and the reveal with its twists and turns. Great main character…will there be a second in the series?

Original main character. Different plot

Loved getting to know the characters, the descriptions are so vivid and evocative. Perfect blend of twisted plotting and pace

Fast paced, unique and brilliantly written

A really pacy thriller, the double time lime allows differing viewpoints. Cant wait to see what comes next! Mental health issues (I agree with Cam that is far too trite a term) discussed and used in a knowledgable and sensitive way.

you cant drown the past

This will appeal to those who like the detective thrillers of David Blake.. whilst it is a solemn affair, without the same little humorous elements, its detail on the Broads is more accurate (no reference to tow paths..) and it’s a good plot. My only gripe on the audiio book is giving the main man a rather grating Yorkshire accent, like Sean Bean.. no lilting Norfolk accents to be heard.

Enjoyable thriller on Norfolk Broads
