Thraxas ekes out a living as a private investigator. He lives in the poor part of town, with a barbarian for a landlord, and a female ex-gladiator to help him when the fighting gets rough. Thraxas might be too jaded to feel any desire for the beautiful Makri, with her Elvish and Orcish blood, but he appreciates her lethal combat skills. Thraxas once learned a little magic, but he's a hopeless sorcerer. On the other hand, he's brave, loyal to his clients, and he's a legend at the dining table. Thraxas can out-eat and out-drink anyone. When his investigations involve hostile sorcerers, sword-wielding thugs and murderous assassins, Thraxas knows the value of a flagon of ale and a good bowl of stew.

a comfortable, humourous, swords and sorcery detective story.
it reminded me of a cross between Lindsey Davis's Roman Private Informer 'Marcus Didius Falco' series and Phil Foglio's 'Buck Godot (always available, never free)' sci-fi private eye cartoon series.

entertaining 😁

An amazing book, listened to all of it in one day. Look forward to hearing the rest of the series.

Absolutely Fantastic!

Great characters and engaging world. Brilliant narration.

Thoroughly enjoyed the detective work and the MCs backstory and how capable he and his companion are.

Only downside was his companion repeatedly being in bikini armour or naked, just seemed unnecessary

Fun and Believable fantasy world

I already love the Thraxes books so was overjoyed to hear that the first book is now on audible. I hope they do more. Saying that, the reading wasn’t perfect or amazing. The reader was ok but not if the quality of, say, the reader of The Devils. I guess it’s a question of money. The voice of Thraxes or Maki was not how it ought to be (in my view). The story just sounds like someone reading it out loud to you rather than someone actually ‘acting’ it out, if you know what I mean. But nonetheless I enjoyed it, mainly cause I love Thraxes and Maki so much and I still enjoyed hearing it.

Thraxes on audible yay
