About this listen

Eric knows it's not easy, being King. Fortunately, he has a Queen for that.

Eric - or King Halar, or Vlad, or any number of aliases - doesn't want to be bothered. It's hard to pin down what he does want, if anything. He lives a quiet life, almost a solitary one, mourning in his own way for the loss of someone dear.

His quiet solitude can't go on forever. Despite the empty places inside him, events and creatures move through the worlds and across the void between, forcing him into action, into fighting, into confronting things perhaps better left alone...even forcing him into being a King.

I'm surprised that there's no bad ending for this book and am quite happy about it. The other books besides the first one had quite downer endings.

yay, no doom and gloom cliffhanger.

This series cannot be over hyped. Well written, funny, thought provoking books, wonderfully performed by Sean Runnette. I recommend these to anyone and everyone who has the slightest interest in Vampires, funny books, physics, magic and fire-breathing metal horses. Treat yourself to this fantastic book!

Amazing series

Overall a good book but the story is a little bit slow and seems to go nowhere, however I like the characters just wish it would move quicker. look forward to the next one.

Good Book, enjoyed listening.

I've listened to all 5 books in the series and hope there will be a 6th book. The series is the best yet and I've been a fan for manny years. The narrator was excellent in his story telling and I loved Mary she is great ruthless but you can't help cheering her on

Fabulous

I'm not going to spoil anything, but even in a book on the right side of epic in length, you'd be forgiven for wondering how all the side stories and themes could be reconciled. I'm not saying that everything is tied up with a neat little bow, but the decision Halar is left with near the end almost overrides all the other, lesser plots, and on finishing the story you're left wondering if there was any other way it could be ended.

In terms of the series, and the place 'Void' has in the greater tale, there is a notable difference in that our favourite Nightlord is no longer gaining power, he has (begrudgingly) achieved it, and is steadily trying to get rid of the need to use it, only to be constantly dragged back in to the thick of things.

Garon Whited is an exceptional author, few indeed could write at such length yet still leave the reader (or listener in this case) wanting more. Sean Runnette... I don't think 'narrator' is a sufficient term for him. He is a storyteller, a performer extraordinaire, someone who pulls you into the story and makes you feel connected to the characters. Their losses become your losses, their wins become yours.

Overall, an excellent read / listen, with a poignant and emotional conclusion.

That ending though
