"The deepest secrets leave a trail that lead straight to the heart."

Storm Peckham has lived her entire life a walking, talking lie. It's an open secret that her father's best ranch hand is his half-breed son. Only one other living soul knows that "son" is Storm. And that soul, her half-sister Emma, has been kidnapped.

Without Emma, Storm faces a future as lonely and desolate as the desert toward which the kidnapper's tracks lead. But as long as Emma keeps leaving clues that tell Storm she's all right - and to stall for time - there's still hope.

When US Marshalls Colt and Cole Dalton meet their hired tracker, Colt senses something isn't quite right about this small, unusually scrawny "boy". And it's not just Storm's odd methods, pushing the pace one minute, ambling the next. Its subtle movements that betray feminine grace, eyes that seem to see right through to his soul.

With the handsome Colt tracking her every move, Storm's instincts warn her she's on borrowed time. And not even saving Emma will keep a lid on more than one secret with the power to change everything...for all of them.

Storm is amazing but he holds so many secrets inside that it breaks your heart. Cole and Colt, twins and both are marshals, are hired to find Storm's little sister Emma. This book was a great addition to the series and I really enjoyed it. This story has all the elements I want in a book, suspense, action, and romance.

A storyline that I really enjoyed!

Emma and Storm. Half sisters. One brought up as a daughter and the other as a son. That bit of the plot alone has so much potential that I really wished the book was longer, especially as their father has no idea he doesn't have a son.

Then Emma is kidnapped in a way that appears voluntarily and the plot thickens. Their father hires two US Marshals, who happen to be twins, to find Emma with the assistance of Storm.

Each step of the way presents challenges to the four characters as they struggle with their identity, attraction and relationships. This isn't a story about retrieving a woman. It is about a journey to find oneself.

I enjoyed the audiobook but really wished it was longer.

This is one of those cases where the cover made me do it. I've always been intrigued by Indians/Native Americans, and I wanted to see the author's take on this story. So, I pretty much went into it blindly (didn't remember much of the blurb by the time I started listening). I hadn't realized this was multiple POV until I hit the second chapter, but it is necessary for the pace and fits the book. However, I don't think I found some aspects of the story very believable, especially considering Storm's upbringing and the time by which she's told her own identity (wouldn't that mess up her view of herself and the world?), or how everything went down at the end (what happened to the marshals doing their job?). Still, the writing or narration was compelling enough to make me listen till the end, even though one can foresee how things will end for the most part. I think the narrator did a good job of bringing the characters to life, and of giving everyone a distinct voice—or at least trying, since sometimes there were conversations between Cole and Colt that could get confusing. Speaking of which, the author should really evaluate her choice when naming characters, since with such similar names, it got really confusing to know which brother was doing what during a scene. So, keeping that in mind, and adding to it the use of language throughout the book (Lord's name in vain, d-bombs), I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, which is a shame since before I started this, I knew that it was the second in a series, and I was considering checking out the others.

Speed listened at: 1.5x

Content:
Romance: technically clean/sweet (only kisses), but there are mentions of a man touching a woman's chest (unconsciously, while sleeping) or uncovering it (by accident, while the woman is injured and unconscious) and thinking that it wasn't the first time he had seen a woman's chest.

Not very believable...
