Cinema IRL

By: Amber Noelle & Scott Gerhardt
Listen for free

Cinema IRL drops you straight into the movie and asks the question, "what would YOU do?" In every episode, Amber and Scott (and the occasional guest) take movie plot points and run them through a real-life filter. What holds up, what falls apart, and what they'd actually do when things get messy. From impossible choices to wildly unrealistic storylines, they break it down, challenge each other, and uncover how these stories might play out in real life. Cinema IRL is smart, funny, and just the right amount of unhinged. (In case you're wondering about the dinosaurs on the movie posters, it was an inside joke that gained waaaayyyy too much traction. • E290 – Scary Movie - What Would YOU Do?
    Jul 15 2026
In this episode, the hosts attempt to dissect the chaotic, spoof-heavy landscape of the *Scary Movie* franchise, though the conversation quickly devolves into a masterclass in technical incompetence and verbal stumbles. Between struggling to operate their own recording software and questioning why they even bothered to sit down for this recording, they manage to touch upon the Wayans family’s legendary history of pushing boundaries and the sheer absurdity of trying to find a "What Would You Do?" scenario in a film that thrives on disjointed nonsense. It’s an irreverent, slightly unhinged look at a movie that perhaps shouldn't have been discussed at all. Also Scott swears he knows the difference between I Know What You Dìd Last Summer and Scream. He was referring to how IKWYDLS didn’t number their sequel so this movie did not either. And yes, was a very bad spoof on how we record our podcasts, plus the wonders that DoneCast.com does for podcasters.

  • E289 – Pressure - What Would YOU Do?
    Jul 13 2026
In this episode, Amber and Scott dive into the high-stakes history of the film Pressure , which explores the harrowing meteorological decisions leading up to the D-Day invasion. They discuss the fascinating use of inflatable tanks and dummy parachuters as psychological warfare, highlighting how the Allies masterfully tricked the German forces about the actual location of the attack. Amber and Scott also share a laugh over the random trivia that Chris Messina, who plays meteorologist Irving Crick, is actually credited with creating the hashtag. Some What Would You Dos from the episode: If you were in charge of a mission with 300,000 lives on the line and two experts gave you completely conflicting recommendations, how would you decide whom to trust? If you were Dr. Stagg and had to explain to Eisenhower why providing a 2.5-day forecast with 100% certainty is effectively impossible, how would you articulate that without sounding like you aren't up to the task? If you discovered a small, high-risk gap in a massive storm that could be your only chance to launch a surprise attack, would you risk the mission on that narrow window or wait two weeks for potentially better conditions? The duo concludes by reflecting on the absurdity of 1940s forecasting methods, specifically the reliance on analog maps —which amounted to checking if the weather was nice on that same date in 1912. It’s hilariously terrifying to realize that the fate of the free world essentially hinged on a meteorologist’s version of confirmation bias .

  • E288 – Carolina Caroline - What Would YOU Do?
    Jul 10 2026
In this episode, the hosts break down the cinematic crime spree of *Carolina Caroline*, a film that proves small-town boredom is a dangerous catalyst for bad life choices. From questionable bank robbery fashion choices to the hosts debating the logistics of "suicide by cop," they dissect why our protagonists are essentially the worst criminals to ever grace the silver screen. It’s a cynical, hilarious look at why you should probably just stick to a 9-to-5 instead of trying to outrun the FBI with nothing but a wig and a dream.
