About this listen
In episode 3 of “60 Seconds Remaining”, Julian Wilson talks to Ashlee Inscoe, a 45-year-old intersex woman who has been incarcerated in a male facility for nearly a decade. Ashlee describes her ongoing battle with the state to be recognized and treated as female and transferred to a women’s prison, including years of advocacy for correct pronouns, gender-affirming clothing, and access to gender-affirming care and surgery. She recounts lifelong challenges of feeling different, depression and anxiety, drug use, and legal trouble. Ashlee details harassment, retaliation, and abuse from staff and others while incarcerated.
