As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Thomas Jacobi sits down with Fr. Fessio to talk about his memories of WWII and the history of the country over the last 80 years. Fr. Fessio expresses his love for his country and the importance of patriotism. But he also points out some of the typical American flaws and excesses. Ultimately, he hopes that America will become more prayerful, virtuous, and Godly in the next 100 years.

From the original conquistadors and missionaries to the persecution of Catholics in the 20th century, the history of Catholicism in America is multifaceted. So today, we are grateful to have Dr. Christopher Shannon to join Andrew Petiprin to discuss this checkered history in America which he records in his book American Pilgrimage.

They begin by discussing the central importance of Our Lady of Guadalupe and then work sequentially through the centuries as they highlight the various roles that the certain Catholic individuals as well as the shifting Catholic culture shaped America today. We are blessed to Catholics in America, and we pray for our country on this special anniversary of its founding.

Mariele Courtois is a college professor at Benedictine college and part of the Vatican Dicastery for Culture and Education’s AI Research Group. And in today’s podcast, she joins Ben Eriksen to begin unpacking Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical in light of the practical circumstances facing individuals today. They begin by highlighting a few themes from “Magnifica Humanitas” that have they find most relevant and insightful. Then they unpack some of these principles by discussing if and how AI should be used in our everyday lives. Is it wise to have AI draft emails, conduct research, or produce art? What considerations should we weigh when making these decisions? While more conversations like this are needed, the two hope that this discussion can continue to inform the viewers as we all seek to navigate the changing landscape of the modern century.
