  • Would Our Ancestors Survive Today's Laws? The Oregon PEACE Act
    Jun 5 2026

Scott and Tina of the Mississippi Family Homestead Podcast take on one of the most controversial proposed laws affecting homesteaders in America today. Oregon Initiative Petition 28, the PEACE Act, People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions, could make hunting, fishing, butchering your own livestock, pest control, and routine livestock management practices criminal offenses in Oregon. If it passes in November 2026, farmers and homesteaders would have just 30 days to comply.

Scott and Tina break down what IP28 actually says, drawing directly from the proposed document, and compare it to how our ancestors lived under the Homestead Act of 1862, when hunting, fishing, and harvesting your own animals were simply the way of life. They also look at the legal history of hunting and farming rights across America, including the 24 states with constitutional protections for hunting and fishing, and discuss why they believe every American should have the freedom to raise and harvest their own food on their own land.

  • Can Anyone Really Be 100% Self-Sufficient? The Honest Truth | Ep. 1
    Apr 24 2026

Is 100% self-sufficiency actually possible for a modern family?

Probably not — but that does not mean you should stop trying.

In Episode 1, Scott and Tina sit down in their backyard in rural

Mississippi to talk honestly about what self-sufficiency really

looks like today. From the story of Dick Proenneke living alone

in remote Alaska for 30 years, to growing a garden, raising

chickens, collecting rainwater, canning food, and dreaming of

going off-grid — this is a real, no-fluff conversation about

homestead life from a couple who left the suburbs six years ago

    and never looked back.
