The midpoint of the baseball season is almost here and the Cardinals are in the thick of the playoff chase. The lineup is strong, but the rotation is springing leaks. The opening day starter seems especially vulnerable, and even Keith, a usually reliable defender, is out of ammunition.

Around the league, fans and players are concerned about a strike and Rafael Devers pulls a real-life Roger Dorn stunt in San Francisco. Pete Crow Armstrong continues to provide baffling moments along with brilliance and the Yankees and Dodgers have reasserted themselves at the top of their respective leagues.

The Blues make major news by sending away one of the franchise’s most polarizing players for a stunning haul that even social media applauds. At press time, the team has FOUR first-round picks, which presents versatility.

The Brendan Sorsby saga takes another insane turn as the NFL cancels the supplemental draft. Look for more attorney involvement coming soon. And Brian Kelly has found work – although not exactly where we might expect.

The World Cup continues to be can’t-miss TV and the one-name stars are shining. One former USMNT player says that they must play four perfect games to win the cup and says to not expect a win. Keith has strong feelings.

Golf fans behave badly in New York, Jack Webb almost had an amazing role, Sylvester Stallone wanted to score a goal and a memorable line from a Louisiana politician. All of this and more in this week’s action-packed, full-house episode of The St. Louis Sportists Podcast.

Doug, Tom and Ron discuss the Cardinals blazing past Flag Day in the number one Wild Card spot. The recent lineup transfusion has breathed new life into an offense that was growing stale. But what about the rotation with two starters that are taxing the bullpen regularly? And then, there’s the Dustin May question – suitable for a high school debate class. Sell high or hope he’s Carpenter 2.0 and build around him?

Around the league, Spencer Strider is shut down for at least a month and the guys wonder if he’ll ever return to form. The Brewers continue to confound and succeed and the White Sox have risen to the top of a very mediocre AL Central.

The Brendan Sorsby era is over at Texas Tech – was a Wilfred Brimley-like figure involved at the end? Mizzou gets early windows for big games, and at least two Sportists don’t mind. Big finishes for the NHL and NBA and the NHL draft is only a week away. What will the Blues do?

The World Cup is a rousing success so far and St. Louis is tuning in. The rest of the world (including the Democratic Republic of Congo) is chippy regarding the US hosting, despite David Beckham being everywhere.

The US Open is ready at Shinnecock Hills and unless you’re a tough guy, you need not consider winning. All of this plus how to drive talk radio traffic, is June becoming a good sports month and good news for a St. Louis Battlehawk on this jam-packed edition of the St. Louis Sportists Podcast.

The Sportists join the rest of St. Louis in asking, how much longer does Nolan Gorman have to prove himself? Winning teams celebrate players doing well, but a .500 month of May has the Cardinals looking for run production. But Noot is back and reinforcements have arrived from Memphis. Is a winning record in ’26 complicating the long-term plan?

Across the state, the Royals are in freefall after a stretch losing 16 of 19 games. But, if you’re a Royals fan (and we’re truly sorry if you are), you’re accustomed to 100 loss seasons in this … century.

The Mizzou-Kansas basketball rivalry may be approaching its final game this season. Reports from Columbia indicate no negotiations are underway to extend the series. Brendan Sorsby turns out to be a prolific gambler, and his college and pro prospects have never been cloudier. And Texas and Texas Tech engage in a smack talk showdown for the ages and the winner is … everyone.

All of this plus the Chicago Bears to Indiana, a Lionel Messi overdose incoming, a major NFL trade and good news for the St. Louis Battlehawks on this action-packed episode of the St. Louis Sportists Podcast.
