I did all the right things to prevent getting cancer. A certified health coach, nutritionist & wellness speaker, I thought I’d be the last person to be diagnosed with breast cancer. Why did I still get it? Was there something else I could have done to prevent it? A couple years later, I am grateful to be cancer-free and now I’m on a mission to share everything I’ve learned about mitigating risk, managing symptoms, and staying mentally well when bad things happen – even if you “did everything right!” ‘Why Did I Get Cancer‘ features: • Eye-opening information about health/cancer risks that surround us (and solutions to mitigate risks) • Health & lifestyle tips to lower risk (easier and quicker than you’d think!) • Inexpensive solutions for lowering cancer risk DISCLAIMER: The information provided on this podcast pertaining to your health or wellness, or any other aspect of your life is not intended to be a substitute for the professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment provided by your own Medical Provider or Mental Health Provider. • 156. Did My Dr. Drop The Ball?
    Jun 25 2026
I felt anxious after recording an episode today. My guest had the same cancer I had, and her oncologist has checked her twice a year for almost twenty years! That made me wonder why my oncologist no longer checks on me. She said I only needed five years of surveillance. Did My Doctor Drop The Ball on My Care? Or was this just my scan anxiety talking? I pushed the pause button on my anxiety and realized I was having the oh-so-common scan anxiety. Cancer scan anxiety is the stress, fear, or worry people may feel before, during, or while waiting for results from a cancer scan. In my case, the anxiety kicked in because I stopped getting the twice-a-year check, not because something new had happened. Even after treatment ends or previous scans have been reassuring, it is common to feel nervous before appointments. Many people report racing thoughts, trouble sleeping, irritability, or feeling distracted while waiting for answers. These feelings are a normal response to uncertainty and do not mean someone is weak or not coping well. Waiting is often the hardest part of scan anxiety. It can feel like life is on pause until the results arrive. During this time, I find that staying busy helps reduce stress. I work to maintain my normal routine, starting my day with prayer and gratitude and staying off of Dr. Google. Today’s guest, Cindy Janecka, is a counselor, a twenty-year breast cancer survivor, and author of the book, This Can’t Be Happening. I met Cindy at a dinner event, and we immediately realized how much we had in common! Today’s episode is encouraging for anyone who has ever heard those words, “You have cancer.” ______ Kirkland Signature Sea Salt Popcorn I'm always looking for snacks that are simple, satisfying, and made with clean ingredients. One of my latest Costco favorites is the Kirkland Signature Sea Salt Popcorn. I love that it's made with just three ingredients: non-GMO corn, coconut oil, and sea salt. The individual snack-size bags are also a big win. They're 90 calories, have zero sugar, and include 2 grams of fiber, making them perfect when I'm craving something crunchy without overdoing it. If you're shopping at Costco and want a delicious snack with simple ingredients, this one is definitely worth picking up. Of course, this is just my personal experience, but it's been an interesting part of my wellness routine. If you're curious about NAD, NR, and the science behind healthy aging, I highly recommend listening to my conversation with Dr. Kaufmann. She does a fantastic job explaining how NAD supports healthy aging and why timing can make a difference. • 155. I HATE TRACKERS. Okay, let’s call it a love/hate relationship.
    Jun 11 2026
You asked, and I answered! What Do I Think About Health Trackers? How Do I Feel About Different Weight Loss Methods? How Much Water Should We Drink in a Day? I love your questions, and I love to talk. Sounds like a match made in heaven if you ask me. I did keep my answers short on this episode, and I have to tell you it’s well worth the fifteen minutes to give it a listen. SPOILER ALERT: I HATE TRACKERS. Okay, let’s call it a love/hate relationship. My husband gave me a tracker for Christmas. At first I loved it! I’d wake up and immediately go to the data to see “how I did” sleeping. I began to check the app several times each day. Yup, I got a little obsessed with the data. I can’t believe I’m going to tell you what happened next, but here goes, I allowed the data to dictate my mood. Here’s what I mean: if the app told me I slept great, then awesome, I was going to have a good day. If the app told me my sleep was poor and that I should consider resting, I knew it was going to be a rough day. I got so fixated on the app that I finally returned it. Yes, I am tracker-free, and my stress level is lower now. I will say that I did find some value in the data, and I wish I could use a tracker for a few days a month and then put it away. I also know that to get accurate data, you need to wear it consistently. Listen to this short episode to hear how I feel about how much water we should drink in a day. Air Dr. I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year and absolutely love it! I first heard about it from Dr. Mark Hyman, and even though it was a bit of a splurge compared to what I usually spend, I'm so glad I invested. Every time I change the filter and see all the gunk it collects, I smile, knowing it's doing a great job keeping my air clean! And I'm so happy that all that gunk isn't going into my body. She was talking about the power of copper peptides to help reduce the appearance of scars. Since I have plenty of scars, I thought I’d give it a try. I used the GHK-Cu Serum on my scars and my face. Within days, the skin on my face became so much softer! And after a few months of use, my skin felt thicker and smoother. Bonus that my mastectomy scars also started to lighten! • 154. Is NAD The Fountain Of Youth?
    May 28 2026
Today’s podcast guest, Dr. Sandra Kaufmann, is considered a pioneer in true longevity medicine and is an NAD expert. She has spent the last twenty years learning how Not To Age. She has improved her skin, vision, muscle recovery, and immune system. Interestingly, she shared that even though her physician friends would tease her about her hacks, many would later, in secret, ask for her help with anti-aging. What is NAD? NAD stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide. It’s a natural molecule found in every cell in your body and is essential for staying alive and healthy. Think of NAD as a helper molecule that gives your cells the energy they need to work properly. What does NAD do? NAD helps with: Turning food into energy Repairing damaged cells and DNA Brain function and memory Healthy aging Muscle function Metabolism Without enough NAD, your cells can’t produce energy efficiently. Why do people talk about NAD and aging? NAD levels naturally decline with age, particularly after age 40. Lower NAD levels may be linked to: Fatigue Poor or disrupted sleep Slower metabolism Brain fog Researchers are studying whether boosting NAD might support healthier aging. How can NAD levels be increased? Supplements Common NAD-related supplements include: NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide) NR (Nicotinamide Riboside) Vitamin B3 forms like niacin These are “building blocks” your body may use to make more NAD. NAD 101 NAD is vital for energy and cell repair, but levels decrease with age, leading to increased interest in supplements and IV therapy. Research is ongoing, and while some people report benefits, it’s not for everyone. For many healthy adults, NAD-related supplements appear reasonably safe when used appropriately, but you should always discuss with your healthcare provider if you: Take medications Have liver disease, cancer, diabetes, or kidney problems Are pregnant or breastfeeding Very high doses of certain vitamin B3 products can cause side effects. If you want to educate yourself about anti-aging, today’s episode is not to be missed! ______ Vitali I knew little about copper peptides until I heard Vitali founder Debbi Barber on a podcast.
