Der neue Fall für die Saarlouiser Kommissare Kathrin Krämer und Michel Paquet ist zuerst gar keiner: Der Gewürzhändler Lothar Dude hatte einen tödlichen Unfall, in seiner brandneuen Limousine fuhr er auf schnurgerader Straße gegen einen Baum. Krämer findet das verdächtig, die Autopsie fördert tatsächlich einen erstaunlichen Befund zutage: Dude hatte eine Überdosis Safran intus. Selbstmord? Mord? Die Ermittlungen um den Gewürzhändler und den mörderischen Safran bringen Paquet und Krämer mit einem Frauen-Kochklub in Kontakt, denn im Saarland gilt mit gutem Grund das Motto "Hauptsach gudd gess" (Hauptsache, gut gegessen).

Tobias Uhl, Chef der Online-Apotheke Saarlouis, ist erschlagen worden. Einer von Uhls Kunden behauptet, die Online-Apotheke habe gefälschte Medikamente vertrieben und sei damit schuld am Tod seines Vaters. Die Kommissare Krämer und Paquet finden bald heraus, dass Uhl intensive Geschäftsbeziehungen zum Arzneimittelhändler Legrand im französischen Nancy unterhielt. Eine Dienstfahrt nach Nancy bringt Paquet und Krämer auf eine 'heiße' Spur, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes, denn Legrands Lager geht in derselben Nacht in Flammen auf. Aber haben die Brandstifter auch Tobias Uhl auf dem Gewissen?

Saarlouis brodelt, aus der Umgebung strömen die Menschen zur 'Emmes', einem mehrtägigen Volksfest mit Kirmes, Buden und großem Musik-Feuerwerk. Das Saarlouiser Kommissariat liegt mittendrin, und nicht nur das: Hauptkommissarin Kathrin Krämer und ihr Kollege Michel Paquet ermitteln, weil ein Angestellter der Stadt Saarlouis tot aufgefunden wurde. Er war für die Vergabe der Standplätze auf der 'Emmes' zuständig und kleinen 'Geschenken' nicht abgeneigt, wie Paquet und Krämer herausfinden.

Die Stadtbücherei im saarländischen Nehdorn brennt lichterloh. Hauptkommissar Michel Paquet und seine Kollegin Kathrin Krämer aus Saarlouis werden noch in der Nacht zum Tatort gerufen, denn unter den Trümmern der Bücherei finden die Feuerwehrleute eine männliche Leiche. Der Verdacht auf Brandstiftung bestätigt sich bald, aber die Identität des Toten in der Bibliothek gibt Krämer und Paquet Rätsel auf - genauso wie Johann Burger, der Leiter der Bücherei.

Ihr aktueller Fall führt sie in die Laubenkolonie der stillgelegten Grube Zellersweiler. Die Schrebergärten sollen eingeebnet werden, damit Parkplätze für das zum Kulturzentrum umgebaute Grubengebäude entstehen können. Da wird Norbert Gessner, früher Bergmann in Zellersweiler, ermordet in seiner Laube aufgefunden. Am Vortag noch hatte Gessner den Direktor des neuen Kulturzentrums massiv unter Druck gesetzt, um die Kolonie zu retten.
