Tarzan the Terrible, written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is the eighth book in the Tarzan series. Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American author best known for his science fiction and fantasy novels. Burroughs created the characters of Tarzan and John Carter, as well as the fictional landmass in the Earth known as Pellucidar.

In this funny, nightmarish masterpiece of imaginative excess, grotesque characters engage in acts of violent one-upmanship, boundless riches mangle a corner of Africa into a Bacchanalian utopia, and technology, flesh, and violence fuse with and undo each other. A fragmentary, freewheeling novel, it sees wild boys engage in vigorous, ritualistic sex and drug taking, as well as prankster-ish guerrilla warfare and open combat with a confused and outmatched army.

Lieutenant Albert Werper had only the prestige of the name he had dishonored to thank for his narrow escape from being cashiered. However, times of prosperity and abundance provide some of the strongest temptations to pull our hearts away from God.
