Nominated for the ALMA Prize – the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, often referred to as the ‘Nobel Prize for children’s literature’ – for his entire body of work, Gaël Aymon was, before becoming a writer, an actor, screenwriter, director and producer, and taught theatre to children and teenagers. A connoisseur of fairy tales, he has been writing picture books and novels for young people since 2010 (and willing adults!) Imbued with humanism, his books – written in a style that is at times poetic, at times raw, but always demanding – challenge stereotypes. They have won numerous awards and have already been translated into Chinese, Korean, Romanian, Turkish, Italian, Spanish, German, as well as in Taiwan, Brazil and Mexico, and into Braille and FALC. A tireless advocate for literature and reading aloud to young people, he has already met nearly 20,000 pupils in classrooms across the French-speaking world and has been the patron of the ‘Petits Champions de la lecture’ since 2026.
