I root for humans and write non-fiction because what we go through deserves a scribe. My first book, How to Raise an Adult, takes aim at helicopter parenting for undermining agency and resilience in children and young adults. My second book, Real American: A Memoir, examines the impact of the thousand small cuts of microaggressions and racism. My third book, Your Turn: How to Be an Adult is an inclusive approach to leading your best life once you're a grownup. My forthcoming book, The Bonus Years, is a guide for parents and adult children living together. I hold a BA in American Studies from Stanford University, a JD from Harvard Law School, an MFA in writing from California College of the Arts, and a Doctor of Letters from University of Puget Sound. I live in Palo Alto, California with my partner of over thirty-five years where I serve on the City Council. We have two twentysomethings and we share our home with one of them.
